The under 13s were back in action for the first time in four weeks with the chance of ending the day top of the league against current leaders Hawkesmill.
Team talk simple, start quick, work hard, beat them and were top. As per previous games, the U13s started quickly and didn’t take too long to create chances and score the first goal. After two months out with an injury Archie made a goal scoring return and scored the U13s first(5 in 2 games). Second goal followed after a corner which resulted in Ben’s first ever goal for GNP. A few minutes later a well deserved third from Riley(4 in 5 games).
Without doubt that was the best half of football the U13s have played this season, an absolute joy to watch and really the match should have been wrapped up if we had been more clinical. Asked for more of the same in the second half but as we have been doing all season, we seem to be suffering from second half syndrome and let the other side back into the match. This allowed the opposition to get more of the ball and resulted in Hawkesmill pulling two back with five minutes to go. Extra CDM brought on to see out the game and final score ended 3:2 to GNP U13s.
Later that afternoon found out our closet rivals all drew which meant we had finished the weekend top of the league for the first time this season and with the only hundred percent record in the league. Great effort from the U13s so far and can’t praise them enough especially after last season. Only five games played and a long way to go but hopefully being top is the only motivation they require for our next game.
Special Mentions to Karam and Ben who were immense at the back and Riley who is getting better each week.
