For our third game of the season the u13s found ourselves on the road to Rugby for our first away game of the season to see if we could extend our winning streak.
Not our best half of the season with the size of the pitch being a major factor. Pitch appeared to be a lot smaller than the usual eleven side pitch and seemed more like a nine a side pitch. Boys warned beforehand would need to try and keep to their positions, pass as much as possible and not to try and take on too many players as the opposition would close the space easily. Come kick off, exactly what I warned against happened and the boys struggled to get our passing game going and unusually, only created one chance from open play. Good thing was the U13s still came into half time with a two nil lead, courtesy of two corners from Jacob and first ever goals from centre backs Karam and Jatin. Also our first goals from corners this season.
Half time involved a stern talk regarding standards dropping and a couple of positional changes made. Regardless of the opposition and size of the pitch the U13s were on strict instructions to start passing.
Instructions taken on board and fair play to the U13s they responded with the usual flow of chances being created and finally working the opposition’s goalie. Three more goals added in the second half from open play with some good build up play. Two from Jacob(five from two games) and another from Riley(three in three games). Totally different performance from the first half and back to the standard of what we now expect. Another three points which takes the U13s winning run from last season to five games.
Special mentions to Karam and Jatin who both got their first ever goals and hopefully more to follow. Positives for the day, first ever clean sheet and taking the lead in the first half when below par.
