Football finally returned to Finham Park School after one of the most disrupted winters in our history. The seemingly invincible Under 14 Tigers took centre stage with an unprecedented 2 games on consecutive days to catch up on weather affected Cup games. They came across stiff opposition in both games but prevailed with some spirited and fantastic football at times to progress to the latter stages of each competition. Other highlights this weekend were the Under 12 Pumas toppling the league leaders in their division, the Under 13 Tigers edging their cup tie to move into the Quarter Finals and a brilliant away league win for the Under 12 Panthers. In Mid Warwickshire Trophy Event action, both Jaguars teams (Under 9 and Under 10) started their group campaigns with good victories!
SATURDAY – GIRLS
The GNP Panthers Under 12s made the short trip to Coventry United on Saturday morning in their first game since January 24th. The girls were out the traps quickly and broke the deadlock after five minutes when a powerful long range shot from Maya found the net. The girls were buoyed by that and poured forward at every opportunity. The second came after 20 minutes, when good work by Divjot winning the ball in midfield fed Faith on the left who finished clinically from 12 yards in the bottom corner. Panthers going into the break 2-0 up. The 2nd half Cov were on the front foot and trying to get back in the game, but Panthers dug in well protecting their lead well with solid defending from Sheena, Divjot and Becky, and Tino in goal being alert when called upon. With three minutes to play Cov pulled one back to make it a nervy ending. But with virtually the last kick of the game, Suvreet got away down the right wing and sent a lovely shot high over the keepers head to close the game out. Panthers back with a bang and now hoping to get some consistency in playing week in week out with the spring weather hopefully on the way. Cov Utd 1-3 GNP Panthers.
The Under 15 Panthers were away to high flying Inkberrow eagles in what was their first game since November 8th. The Panthers were missing several players and went down 1-5. The Panthers started slowly and found themselves 3-0 down after 20 mins in which time 2 players had to also withdraw through injury. The Panthers then started battling and got a goal back through Lara but couldn’t capitalise on their other chances. The 2nd half display showed encouraging signs for the future but inevitably the lack of game time and thin-looking squad hampered the Panthers performance.
Under 14 Panthers went down to league leaders Heath Ballerz at home on a challenging pitch. There was certainly no disgrace in the final scoreline and overall performance from the girls.
The GNP Under 11 Panthers welcomed CCC to their home ground for a challenging match played on a wet and muddy pitch. A well-contested 1st half saw the Panthers moving the ball confidently through midfield. Anaiya looked solid throughout, while Avani worked hard to push the team forward. Hope delivered a fantastic performance on the wing, making powerful runs and creating space, while Jodh worked tirelessly in defence, breaking up CCC attacks. Elizabeth was full of energy and fight, chasing every ball and lifting the team’s tempo. CCC took the lead but the Panthers continued to battle strongly. The midfield play was constant, with the girls communicating loudly and encouraging each other throughout the game. A few well-taken corners created promising opportunities, but the final touch just wouldn’t fall for the Panthers. Several strong attempts on goal narrowly missed the target, while an opposition goal was ruled out for offside. Unfortunately, two further CCC goals before the break left the Panthers trailing at half-time. The 2nd half began with renewed energy and determination. Both goalkeepers were called into action with some impressive saves at either end, keeping the match exciting and competitive. Elizabeth and Roop both had excellent attempts on goal, with one powerful strike from Roop crashing against the bar. Despite fantastic teamwork and moments of brilliant play, a searing counterattack and two further CCC goals left the Panthers on the back foot. Although the result didn’t go their way, the Panthers showed great teamwork, effort and spirit throughout. Just not their day.
Under 9 Panthers travelled to Stratford Town for an away fixture, signalling their return to grass. Stratford started brightly and opened the scoring early, but the Panthers responded well. Siya struck twice in the first half to turn the game around, giving the Panthers a narrow lead going into half time. The 2nd half was closely contested, with the girls showing great determination. Shreya made a couple of excellent saves to keep the Panthers in the game, while Mihar added another goal to the scoresheet. In the end, the match finished as a well-fought draw. Both teams had chances that could have changed the result, but the Panthers showed fight, teamwork and resilience throughout — plenty to be proud of.
SATURDAY – BOYS
Sunday team Under 14 Tigers started their weekend Cup double header with a Bedworth Nursing Cup Quarter Final tie vs new opponents Balsall & Berkswell Hornets at the University of Warwick under the floodlights on Saturday evening, catching up on a previously postponed fixture before next week’s semi finals. Balsall proved themselves a worthy opponent with strong defending and competitive battles in midfield. Some GNP substitutions mid-way through the 1st half had a positive impact; MD laid the ball off in the attacking left corner to sub Saavun on 21 mins, who floated a delicious high shot from the touchline. It looped over the imposing keeper into the far corner of the net to make it 1-0. Soon after, some lovely football across the midfield allowed Saavun to send a searching through ball over the top. MD raced onto it, beat the defender and expertly slotted it past the keeper for 2-0. The boys played solidly, but the performance never really reached the heights we have seen so often this season. Balsall had positive spells of their own and Wiktor had to be alert to tip over a looping free kick effort. In the 2nd half, any nerves or worries were settled, when Saavun, yet again, was the provider, floating in a corner which Centre Back, Iklil, headed in at the near post. Final score 3-0, earning a semi final slot alongside the best 3 teams in the age group next Sunday! PotM: Ehan for an industrious, skilful performance with great technical ability and vision on show!
Under 13 Tigers emerged victorious in a super-tight League Cup tie away at Nuneaton Borough to move forward to the quarter finals. It was nip and tuck all the way, but well taken goals from Josiah, Deepak & Aman sealed the victory. Jay was named PotM for keeping things tidy at the back and producing several key interceptions to start off GNP counter-attacks.
The Under 9 Jaguars travelled to Rugby for their cup clash with Hillmorton Warriors, and from the first whistle both teams came out pressing hard and looking for the early breakthrough. The boys moved the ball brilliantly, finding space and stitching together some lovely passing moves. That patience and teamwork paid off when Mithun finished off a great passage of play to put the team up. Hillmorton hit back just before the break, sending us in level at half-time. The 2nd half stepped up another gear. Hillmorton brought on some physical players, but the Jaguars stood their ground and kept playing their football. Mithun battled superbly all game and was rewarded again, firing in his second to restore the lead. Not long after, Isaac showed real composure from the spot, calmly slotting home a penalty to extend the lead. Hillmorton kept pushing and pulled one back late on, putting us under real pressure in the final minutes, but the boys dug deep and defended brilliantly to see out a deserved win. There were standout performances all over the pitch. Theo was immense at the back — strong in the tackle, switched on, tracking his man and taking on instructions superbly — earning him a fully deserved PotM award. Mithun’s two goals were matched by his work rate and determination in every duel, while Emaad’s silky footwork drove us forward time and again, creating chances and keeping Hillmorton guessing. It was also fantastic to see Leo and Seva back out there after long term injuries, both looking sharp and fighting fit. A brilliant win for the Jaguars, but even more pleasing is how much the boys are listening, learning, and putting into matches exactly what they are working so hard on in training. It’s a joy to watch.
Under 10 Jaguars kicked off their cup campaign in style with an impressive victory over Khalsa in the opening group game, producing an attacking performance full of confidence and quality. The Jaguars took control early in the first half when Agam opened the scoring with a sublime long-range free kick, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. Riding the momentum from the opener, the Jaguars quickly doubled their lead as Jake found the back of the net with a well-taken finish. Khalsa managed to pull one back after a brief lapse in concentration in the Jaguars’ defence, but the team responded well. Before the break, Reggie restored the two-goal cushion, ensuring Jaguars went into half-time firmly in control. The 2nd half began much like the first, with Jaguars on the front foot and pushing forward. However, Khalsa capitalised on a counterattack to score again and reduce the deficit. Rather than letting their heads drop, the Jaguars showed great resilience and character. Reggie then took centre stage, producing a fantastic 2nd-half hat-trick to put the game beyond doubt and secure a comfortable victory for the Jaguars. The team played some excellent football throughout the match, with strong teamwork and attacking intent on display. Player of the Match: Anshveer – for his relentless tackling and outstanding influence in the 2nd half, where he acted as the catalyst for the Jaguars’ attacking play and several of the goals scored.
After a significant break since Christmas, the Under 10 Lions travelled to play Leek Wootton Wolfpack in an entertaining game in the Spring trophy group stage. With an early start and a reduced squad the boys started strong. The 1st half was a thrilling display with both sides battling hard. Leek Wootton got the upper hand edging ahead in the first half. In the second half, the Lions kept pushing, but unfortunately the hosts scored a couple more, building a strong lead. However our persistence finally paid off when Sahib scored a goal with only a few minutes before the end. Their efforts weren't enough to turn the tables. Great job to Yuvraaj, who was Player of the match.
The Under 10 Pumas hosted a cup fixture against St Peters Celtic. The match began at a fast pace, with the Pumas defending against an early wave of attacks. They held strong for a while, but a shot from outside the box found the net, and a second goal followed shortly after. The Pumas were unlucky not to score in the first half due to some excellent goalkeeping from the opposition. In the second half, the Pumas struggled to find their rhythm and conceded a few more goals. However, a great passing play between Jaiden, Ajeet and Sunny in midfield created an opportunity for Sunny, who calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net. It was a tough game, but there were many lessons to take away from this match.
GNP Under 8 Tigers vs Alvis Colts. The team came into this game hoping they could push on to turn all the recent hard work into a win, this against an Alvis team known for constant pressure and a solid keeper. The game started with a trademark fast pace and a couple of Rhys strikes buying GNP some breathing room. Rayan was back from almost a month off and protected the back with his usual confidence whilst Akram, Rhys and Taran fought hard to keep the ball in the opposition half and the chances coming. New signing Luca got his first minutes for the team and showed great strength and awareness to help win the ball, make some great passes and almost scored a few himself. He even fought on after getting injured by a late tackle and continued to do his bit despite struggling to shake it off. This put a bit more pressure on the rest of the team but Milkias played a blinder in defence, strong tackles, calm distribution and a couple of nice runs out from the back stemming the colts attack and keeping the Tigers looking favourites to score. Quarter 3 was a lot more end to end as both teams pushed to score and it was Alvis that broke the deadlock with a top bins shot that grazed Lucas's glove on the way in spoiling an otherwise flawless performance from him. In the final quarter Luca took a stint in defence and started strong before it became evident his injury was too much to continue. Thankfully before he went off, Luca had time to fire in what turned out to be the winning goal from his own half! Undeterred, the Colts pressed on trying to recover the match with a misplaced defensive pass gifting them a way back into the game. But this game was GNPs for the losing and the boys where not about to let that happen, charging forward with Rhys, Akram and Lucas combining again and again aiming to put the game to bed. This was a hard fought win for the boys with the constant Alvis pressure and some questionable refereeing decisions always making it feel like an uphill battle. The boys had to stand strong, which they did admirably. Naod, in particular, had a constant battle on his hands and came out on top more often than not. The boys can be very proud of how they played and responded to the pressure today and the final result was just reward.
The Under 8 Lions boys were back on grass after a good few months away and were excited to get going in a fixture against Southam Utd. Unfortunately, the Lions fell behind against the run of play early on, but the team showed great spirit and energy to fight their way back into the game. Elliott made a strong driving run from the back and finished neatly to bring the Lions level. Thomas, who was outstanding in goal, kept the team in the game with several brilliant saves and by coming off his line confidently to deny the opposition. Southam managed to take the lead again through an unfortunate own goal. Sahib was everywhere on the pitch today, showing excellent footwork and great awareness on the ball. In the second half, Thomas made an incredible run forward and finished brilliantly to level the game once again. Kiaan battled hard on the wing, putting in tackles and trying to drive the team up the pitch. Luca worked tirelessly as well, pressing well and trying to create opportunities from the wing. Theo was solid at the back, showing composure on the ball and looking to find the wingers with his passes. Dhillan pressed well from the front to stop the opposition building attacks and later assisted Elliott, who scored his second goal of the game. Late in the match the Lions conceded a penalty, but Evan stood strong, made himself big, and produced a great save to keep the scores level. It was a fantastic team performance from the boys, who worked hard for each other every minute they were on the pitch. Player of the Match went to Thomas this week, who stood out with his outstanding saves and his brilliantly taken goal.
Under 7 Lions hosted Lawford United this weekend. Lions started the first quarter strongly, Gian and Harvansh on the wings overwhelmed the opposition with their physicality. The chances were not converted. The Lions had 6 corners in the first 5 minutes. Harvansh's efforts were rewarded with his first goal of the season moments before the break part of Harvansh's best quarter this season - he was brilliant. The 2nd quarter was action-packed with goals. Aathi scored 5 goals in 8 minutes (!), incredible, to give the Lions a comfortable lead. Just before the half time break, Lawford scored to top off a 10 minute goal frenzy! Lawford opened up the third quarter with a goal. This was shortly followed by a scramble in the Lawford box, which Gian poked through the goalkeepers legs to retain the Lions comfortable lead. The Lions again in this quarter were pressuring their opposition with their physicality, determination coupled with some really good technical moments. In the final quarter, the Lions had a lapse in concentration, three handballs in a row, and the third being in the GNP box resulted in a penalty with Lawford converted. The Lions hit back, and Aarav took a shot just outside the box, which hit the back of the net. This was Lawford's better quarter with a few more opportunities, Lucas made some excellent saves in goal and was very brave scrambling to retain possession. A controlled and comfortable performance, a great team effort, and lots of brilliant individual performances, PotM for Aathi this week for his attitude and a particularly excellent quarter.
Under 7 Tigers hosted Rugby Borough Lions in a tightly contested affair and prevailed thanks to a strong final quarter finish. Rugby had the physical superiority which made things very difficult for long spells of the game but the Tigers spirit and teamwork came to the fore to deliver the killer moments as time ran down. Tobias was awarded PotM for another strong all round performance!
SUNDAY – BOYS
Under 14 Tigers faced part 2 of their double header weekend, away to Div A Jet Blades in the League Cup 3rd Round. The game started off evenly with both teams trading blows and Iklil having to be on his mettle to ward off the strong advances of the dangerous home striker. It was GNP though that took the critical lead when MD picked up a loose ball and dribbled across the face of the backline before beating the keeper. It was nip & tuck for the rest of the half with GNP edging the midfield battle thanks to a commanding display from Harman B, well supported by Ehan, Oscar, Dylan and Aarun S at various times. Cinar was superb at wing back in the 1st half, defensively dominant and providing a great outlet for the switch of play. Minutes before the break GNP suffered a scare when Dylan injured the Blades striker in the process of clearing the ball outside the box. Harshly, a free kick was given to Jet Blades and the diminuitive no 10 floated a beautiful strike over the wall but thankfully flush against the post with Wiktor beaten. The boys were warned about a strong response from the home team at half time, but they responded brilliantly, taking their intensity level up again and starting to dominate play all over the park, completely defying the fact they had played a fixture just 12 hours earlier the previous evening! Another harshly awarded free kick outside our box resulted in a dramatic goalmouth scramble with a Wiktor reaction save and several defensive blocks from numerous GNP players preventing an equaliser. The ball then fell to Aaron D, who launched a long pass to MD. He sprinted clear past the helpless defenders and then rounded the keeper for a trademark finish. Jubilant scenes from GNP with the bench all running onto the pitch to celebrate a momentous goal! This passage of play injected the veins of all the GNP Tigers players with belief like you’ve never seen – they then went on to blitz Jet Blades with 3 further goals in the subsequent 12 minutes. First Cinar dispossessed the left back brilliantly and advanced into the area before a pass to MD; MD tried to lose his many markers with 2 sharp turns before lending the ball out to the left side for Saavun, who took a touch and buried the ball low and hard. The 4th followed when Harshaan found MD with a pass and he did the rest with another breathtaking run from halfway finished with supreme confidence! The home team were in disbelief and were punished again when a ball into Ayden fell kindly into the path of MD who scored the easiest of his 4 goals and completed the scoring. Final score 0-5 and PoTM awarded to MD for a stunning display of direct, sklilful running and goalscoring. All 15 players today were phenomenal and delivered a real statement of intent as the latter stages of all 3 competitions come into sharp focus.
GNP Under 14 Pumas were at home to Bedworth Eagles in a big week at the bottom of the table. Pumas started amazing with left winger Abdul getting the ball and first timing it into the top left corner inside 30 seconds! Pumas kept applying the early pressure with Bedworth looking nervous. Pumas eventually won a corner, with Dom rising well above everyone to head goalwards but unfortunately just over the bar. Bedworth pushed forward and started getting into the game, suddenly a deep cross ended up on the edge of the box and with a great strike from the Eagles player the game was all level. Pumas kept playing well all around when Abdul got another chance which was cleared off the line. Eventually a second goal came from Abdul and Pumas looked really confident. As the game went on Bedworth Eagles settled more and more with long throw ins and eventually got a goal with one which snuck into the near post to make it 2-2 at halftime. The game was very close and end to end in the second half but eventually Bedworth Eagles were able to take the lead when Pumas players got caught off guard. During the last 10 minutes Pumas rediscovered their first half energy and kept on pushing and pushing with a hatful of chances, however this was not enough, leading to a devastating 2-3 loss for the Pumas.
Under 14 Lions hosted league title contenders Sporting Rugby Spartans at Finham. From the start you could see the number of physically imposing players that Sporting had at their disposal, and the influence this was likely to have on the game. So it proved, with their impressive no 5 striker a constant threat to the GNP back line. The Lions however, had plenty of attacking joy of their own, with the pace of Mario, and particularly Emmanuel creating several goalscoring opportunities which couldn’t be converted early on. Sporting Rugby opened the scoring after the wide player won a physical battle, advanced and crossed for the late-arriving midfielder to score an emphatic goal. The no 5 then turned the defence on the edge of the box and slotted past Daniel for a 2nd before a messy and fortunate 3rd goal seemingly put the game out of sight. However GNP showed they had other ideas by responding with a goal before half time, Mario converting after being set up by Emmanuel on the left of the box. The momentum continued in the 2nd half as GNP took control, thanks in part to a PotM display in midfield from Jasraj, supported ably by a strong cameo performance from Pavan alongside him. Reon & Mohammed also gave strong performances off the bench and were instrumental in our best attacking play. It was strong work by Pavan to recover the ball and then a smart lay off by Reon, which teed up Mario for his well taken 2nd goal of the day. Soon after some good defensive work by Bhairav and Yuvraj sprung a counter attack, led by Emmanuel. He skipped past 2 defenders and drove into the box before sending a shot which was deflected into the Rugby net by the retreating defender. GNP looked like the favourites at this stage. Mohammed sidefooted an Emmanuel cross agonisingly wide but Sporting Rugby stole the lead when the talented striker got through on a high ball, got it under control and stabbed it slowly past the onrushing keeper, enough for it to dribble over the line. A noble effort from GNP with signs of great development and progress from this relatively new team, since the start of the season
Under 13 Pumas hosted Coventry Alvis. An under-strength Pumas put in a solid display but struggled to convert their chances. Pumas goalkeeper, Harrison pulled off several great saves but was by far the less busy of the 2 keepers. Solid defensive display by Mikaeel Hussain, who protected his goalkeeper. Pumas walking out 2-0 winners and still in contention for automatic promotion. Goals by Evan Bromley after 4 minutes, and a 2nd half own goal giving the Pumas the win
GNP Under 12 Pumas v Meriden Lions. Runaway leaders Meriden started off strong racing in to a 2-0 lead. But then, the Pumas turned the game when Faris floats a beauty of a free kick into the box, and Jaxx seizes it with a silky finish. Just when it couldn't get any better, Lekan unleashes a stunner, twisting and turning past defenders before ripping the ball into the back of the net. Level pegging at 2-2 going into half time! The second half was Pumas' time to shine! They defended like pros, frustrating Meriden at every turn, and when they got their chance, they grabbed it! Lekan with a sublime run and finish, then a hat trick to seal the deal with another individual goal. The Pumas pull off a stunning comeback against the league leaders. A massive shout to the whole team showing commitment, determination, and a supremely positive attitude!
Under 12 Jaguars earned a hard-fought 5–4 win in their first game back at Finham since November. After a strong performance last Sunday, today was a bit flat at times, and focus wasn’t quite at our usual level. Still, the boys showed enough resilience to get the win. We started well, creating chances through Ahmed, Arjun, and Joven B. Armaan scored from a Joven B cross to make it 1–0. Defensively we were a little nervous, and the longer grass made passing tricky. A key moment came when Harrai slipped at the back, Morris tried to intervene, and Joven blocked a shot with his hand. It meant a penalty, which Grove Farm converted to equalise. Ahmed soon responded with a brilliant free-kick to put us 2–1 ahead, but another lapse allowed Grove Farm to make it 2–2 at half-time. Victor came on in the second half and made an immediate impact, scoring twice. Joven B also then scored his well-deserved goal, making it 5–3. A late lapse allowed Grove Farm to pull one back, but the team held on to secure the win. Victor, for his second-half impact contrubuting 2 goals and Joven B for his goal and two assists shared the PotM award this week! Not a perfect performance, but the team showed enough character in the end to earn the 3 points.
The Under 12 Tigers faced league contenders Atherstone Rangers in a tough fixture, but the performance showed just how much progress the team has made since the start of the season. Atherstone took control in the first half and went into the break with a 4–0 lead. Despite the scoreline, the Tigers continued to show good organisation and determination, working hard to stay in the game. The 2nd half told a very different story as the Tigers came out with much more intensity and belief. They began to create chances and put Atherstone under pressure. Early in the half, Jude was clear through on goal and brought down in the penalty area, but surprisingly no penalty was given. The Tigers kept pushing forward and were rewarded when Malachi was fouled just outside the box. Reece stepped up and delivered a fantastic free kick that found the back of the net to pull a goal back for the Tigers. Shortly after, Jude was again brought down in the penalty area and this time the referee had no hesitation in awarding the spot kick. Malachi stepped up confidently and calmly slotted the penalty past the keeper to make it two goals for the Tigers. With the momentum building, GNP continued to create dangerous attacking opportunities and looked capable of adding more goals. However, Atherstone managed to score two further goals against the run of play, sealing the victory with a 7–2 scoreline. Despite the result, the scoreline did not reflect the performance from the Tigers. The boys showed great effort, played some excellent football in spells, and demonstrated clear progress as a team against strong opposition. It was another encouraging performance that highlighted the development and growing confidence within the squad.
The GNP Under 12 Lions welcomed FC Maine in an important Division A fixture, with both sides battling to secure their place in the league. Going into the match, Maine sat just a couple of points above the Lions, making this a crucial contest for both teams. From the first whistle the game was evenly contested, with both sides showing good energy and commitment. The Lions worked hard across the pitch and created several promising opportunities, while also defending well against a dangerous Maine attack. Despite the competitive start, it was FC Maine who made their chances count in the first half. Two excellent long-range strikes found the back of the net, giving the visitors a 2–0 lead at the break. The Lions came out for the second half full of determination and intent. Their effort was rewarded when Athrv produced a superb free kick, striking the ball cleanly into the net to bring the score back to 1–2 and reignite the home side’s hopes. With renewed belief, GNP pushed forward and created several good chances in search of an equaliser. The team showed great spirit and teamwork, but were unable to find the final touch needed to level the match. With around ten minutes remaining, FC Maine managed to seal the game with another outstanding strike that flew into the top corner, making the score 3–1. Although the result was disappointing for the Lions, the performance showed plenty of fight and determination. With a couple of games still in hand, the team remains very much in the battle to stay in Division A – which would be a fantastic achievement for this side. The Lions will now look to regroup, take the positives from the performance, and continue their push in the upcoming fixtures.
Under 11 Tigers played Coventry Copsewood Girls away in the Trophy event. The home side started on the front foot. Putting the Tigers under plenty of pressure. Some determined defending and good goalkeeping kept them at bay. Eventually the home side scored, the Tigers started to respond with Dharam, Harry and Jude all pressing forward. Eventually Harry scored an equaliser after a quick counter attack. Harry then came close to adding to second but couldn't convert from a tight angle. The 2nd half was more even from the start, Jude and Dharam continued to look dangerous on the wings. However, following a defensive mix-up, the home side won a corner after which they scored from long range. Heads did not drop, Kyan saved brilliantly, tipping an effort onto the bar and then following sustained pressure Harry smashed home an equaliser. Both sides pressed for a winner towards the end but it wasn't to be. Overall a fair result and good performance from the Tigers.
Under 10 Tigers
A short-handed Under 9 Tigers delivered an emphatic victory over Leamington Foundation Orange. 4 goals, a clean sheet and a superb effort from back to front. Well done boys!
The Under 9 Lions played at home against Brinklow . The Lions started with great power and with great promise. Neal scored a great goal with an assist from Harvey within a few minutes of the game. Aaron was creating many opportunities for the attacking players early on. However, the boys gradually lost momentum and Brinklow capitalised on this change of pace and equalised. The boys struggled to regain their earlier momentum and although Aaron was able to score another goal, it wasn't enough as the Brinklow boys took control of the game. In the 2nd half many opportunities were created but none were executed. Anwar and Balraj both picked up the pace in the 2nd half but were limited in success. Better luck next time boys
The Under 9 Pumas were away to Mount Nod in a Trophy Event game. It was an early start on a misty morning, and the boys were really slow out of the blocks. The opposition pressed from the off, and unfortunately they scored early after which the floodgates opened. Although we scored a goal on the counter-attack, with Srihan assisting Hugh, it wasn’t enough. We got to bring an extra player on to the pitch which stemmed the flow but, despite getting stronger as the game went on, we never really got out of second gear to reverse the early capitulation. A day to forget but some important lessons for the rest of the season.
