GNP SPORTS FC WEEKLY UPDATE - 27/28 September 2025

Jat Grewal30 Sep - 12:48

Under 13 boys teams maintain table-topping 100% start to the season!

SATURDAY – MEN’S

2-1 defeat vs Cov Colliery Reserves for the Men’s team in the Coventry Alliance Div 1.

SATURDAY – GIRLS

Under 15 Panthers had a home game against Khalsa Lionesses. The Panthers dominated the first half and took the lead through Mekenna but a through ball on the stroke of half time beat the defense and the opposition striker scuffed the ball in off the post. The 2nd half again saw the Panthers dominate and went 2-1 up just after the break, a great run by Mekenna following some neat link up play and firing past the on coming keeper. Following a Khalsa corner the referee awarded a penalty for a handball, which the opposition scored,2-2. Khalsa then took the momentum as fatigue started to creep in for the home team and Khalsa scored 2 late goals resulting in a 2-4 loss for the Panthers. The Panthers battled strongly and dominated most of the play and arguably deserved a point if not all 3 for their efforts, but struggled in the final 10 mins with injuries and a lack of subs to bring on to freshen things up.

GNP Panthers Under 12s hosted Cov Utd on Saturday in a ding dong battle of the City. In a scrappy first half it was Utd who struck first and then again to go into the break 0-2 up. Second Half, GNP, just like last week, staged a comeback. Tino in midfield was everywhere getting them up the pitch. GNP's first goal and second came from Suvreet following in a Avneet shot and then a lob shot from the wing which drew them level. With 10 to play it could have gone either way, but it was Utd who came closest to winning it, but for a brilliant goal saving block from Najma and a last minute wonder save from Kia in goal. Honours even in a topsy turvy battle.

GNP Under 11 Panthers continued their baptism of fire in the new division against Coventry City Blue. The girls started positive, but a fast attacking run and goal in the opening minutes set the tone for the game. Another goal from a goal mouth scramble with a great fist save and a number of attempts to clear could not stop a tap in. The girls were up against it but their heads never dropped, fighting to counter each attack from the opposition, who kept Poppy busy again making multiple saves in the first half. The second half saw a much more solid defence from the Panthers team as a whole, and 6 saves from Poppy. It took over 20 minutes for City to add a further goal, evidencing the focus and effort by the team to try and get something from a difficult game. Next week, we start our trophy event games, which we hope to see the learnings from the start of the season take shape on the pitch.

The Under 9 Panthers’ second away game of the season was a tough league clash against a very well-organised Arden Forest side. Right from the start, the girls showed great determination and resilience. Despite coming up against strong opposition, their spirits never dropped, and they produced some excellent passages of football. Shreya was outstanding in goal, pulling off a string of impressive saves and giving the team confidence by organising brilliantly from the back. Jaye and Siya worked tirelessly, pressing well and putting the Arden defence under pressure throughout the match. Abigail had two shots that went narrowly wide late on, Mihar showed some great spirit, Tanaya defended strongly and Jackie moved around the pitch with a determined energy. Although the game ultimately ended in defeat, the Panthers can take huge pride in their performance. The coaches were quick to highlight just how far the team has come over the past year – with clear signs of progress, growing confidence, and plenty to build on for the rest of the season.

SATURDAY – BOYS

GNP Under 13 Tigers were hosting Hockley Heath. GNP started off very strong with a disallowed goal however, went down a goal against the run of play. GNP continued their good work and fast paced football, which paved the way for their opener scored by Muhamadou. After finding the equaliser, GNP stepped up a gear and found more goals through Josiah and Muhamadou, going into HT 3-2 up. The 2nd half GNP really turned on the style adding 4 goals to their tally Via Muhamadou, Josiah and Aaron. Player of the match was given to Duneal, who has found his role in this new team with some sublime passing, creating real defence to attack transition passes, resulting in good counter attacks and goals. Final score 7-3 and a 100% start to the league season!

The Under 10 Pumas hosted Wellesbourne Wanderers and came flying out of the blocks. They piled on the pressure early, forcing several saves from the visiting keeper. Sunny broke the deadlock with a thunderous strike to give the Pumas a deserved lead. Strong defending ensured they stayed ahead at the break, and the team came out in the second half with even greater intensity. Harvey doubled the advantage with a perfectly placed finish into the bottom corner. The Pumas continued to threaten but were denied further goals by some outstanding goalkeeping. Harvey then added his second, directly from a corner to cap off a commanding performance. Sunny was Player of the Match for his relentless energy and attacking brilliance throughout. From the first whistle to the last, the boys delivered their strongest performance of the season, leaving coaches and parents absolutely buzzing.

GNP Under 10 Jaguars took to the pitch with great energy and determination today. In the first half, the boys showed excellent teamwork and discipline, dominating play and not allowing the opposition a single shot on target. Their hard work was rewarded when Anshveer broke the deadlock with a well-taken goal, giving the Jaguars a deserved lead at half-time. The second half, however, proved to be more challenging. With no substitutes available, fatigue began to set in, and the opposition took advantage of the tired legs to turn the game around. Despite the boys’ best efforts, the opposition managed to score a few goals and secure the win. Although the result didn’t go our way, it was a fantastic effort from every player. The first-half performance showed just what this team is capable of when working together. We’ll take the positives, learn from today, and go again next week.

This week, the Under 9 Jaguars travelled to Tysoe Football Club for the final game of their assessment series—and what a spectacle it was! Mithun led the charge with fierce battles, while Bobby’s relentless runs kept Tysoe on their toes. Freddie was unbeatable in goal, pulling off top-drawer saves and earning the team’s first-ever clean sheet! Theo was everywhere—strong, sharp, and full of intent, rightly named Player of the Week. Despite the scoreboard remaining goalless, this was no ordinary draw. The standard on the pitch was phenomenal, and Tysoe’s keeper had a busy day with plenty of shots on target. Every Jaguar played their part, putting training into action and showing real footballing maturity. We looked dangerous going forward and solid at the back.

Under 8 Lions travelled away to Alvis Colts for their final evaluation game, aiming to finish September with a perfect record — and what a thrilling encounter it turned out to be! The game started brightly for the Lions, with Elliott opening the scoring with a fantastic strike into the top corner. He quickly followed it up with another rocket, and before 10 minutes had passed, he completed a stunning hattrick for the second week in a row! The Lions came out with real intensity and high pressure, which allowed Sahib to add to the scoreline with a composed finish, giving the Lions a commanding early lead. At the other end, Evan was a spectator for much of the opening 10 minutes, thanks to a rock-solid performance at the back from Thomas, who was like a brick wall. Not only did he dominate defensively, but he also drove forward and got himself a brilliant goal. After the break, Alvis Colts found their rhythm and began to claw their way back into the game. The second half turned into a dramatic end-to-end contest. Dhillan got on the scoresheet with some clever thinking from a kick-in. As the game reached its climax, Evan made a crucial save to keep the Lions in contention. With only minutes left, Alvis managed to take the lead. But the Lions didn’t panic. The ball was played forward and Dhillan showing great composure, finished calmly to bring the game level. Then came the moment of magic. From a corner, Sahib stepped up again and slotted a dramatic late goal that gave the Lions the lead once more! The final moments were full of heart-stopping defending. Theo showed great determination when the Lions needed it most in the last 10 mins he positioned himself at the front post, cleared corner after corner, even flicking one over his own bar — a heroic effort to keep Alvis out. What a game of football! A fantastic display of teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship from both teams. Huge credit to Alvis Colts for a brilliant match, but it’s 4 wins from 4 for the Lions! PotM: Sahib – for his all-round effort and match-winning goal.

Under 7 Lions were away this weekend to Leamington Foundation Black. Leamington took the lead with a well worked goal in the opening minute. The Lions hit back immediately with a goal from Mikey, who was leading the Lions attack at the start. Lions went on to dominate possession and have a number of shots saved in the first half before Mikey scored his second, giving the Lions a narrow lead. Half time was full of emotion and frustration for some of the boys. They returned to the field determined to convert their opportunities. Gian fired a quick double, followed by Aathi with his own double. Jeevan followed through to get his first goal of the season. The Lions had a great rhythm all game, and both Lucas and Shivaay were very smart in the distribution of the ball, pivotal to the Lions flow. The game ended with another hat trick from Gian to give the Lions a comfortable win. Overall, it was a great team performance.

SUNDAY – BOYS

Under 17s hosted Chapelfields Colts U17’s in a tense and exciting affair. We went 1-0 up with a lovely passage of play down the line before a ball across the box was put away sharply. Chaps made it 1-1 before just before half time with a controversial penalty. Nevertheless the boys fought hard together, defended very well and managed to break on the counter plenty of times, one of which we capitalised on to go 2-1 up. Chaps managed to snatch and grab an equaliser in the last few mins and we share the points this week with a 2-2 draw. Positive and dominant performance nonetheless from our boys, we were unfortunate to not come away with more, but if we keep up the work rate and continue playing our football, results will start to fall in our favour.

Under 14 Pumas Away. Bedworth Eagles 3 GNP 2. GNP started off strong with most of the play in Bedworth’s half and having shots on target. The few chances Bedworth had, even hitting the crossbar, we defended brilliantly. GNP dominated the whole of the first half. Corbyn’s first game for GNP, and he headed a great goal minutes before half time. GNP was still celebrating, and a minute later, Bedworth got one back. At the start of the second half, it was all evens until Del broke through and scored from outside the box, but soon after, Bedworth equalised. The opposition stayed strong and kept on attacking until the very end and Bedworth scored late on. Overall GNP dominated and were unlucky to come away with no points.

Under 14 Lions hosted Southam United in an afternoon kick off in glorious sunshine. Southam started fastest, but it was GNP who took the lead when Sahib latched onto a quick throw in, wriggled into space out wide, before launching a dangerous cross which winger, Mohammed, diverted in at the far post. Southam hit back immediately when a set piece wasn’t cleared properly, and the rebound was lashed in. But GNP edged ahead again when a long throw from Reon, eventually found its way to Rikhil, who swivelled to fire a fierce shot into the far corner. Southam continued to provide lots of threat but GNP held firm until half time, including some solid defending by debutant Bhairav, Chengwu and strong-handed saves from keeper Daniel. 2nd half Southam’s push for an equaliser became relentless and despite goalline saves, blocks & clearances, the no 9 put away 2 chances to turn the game on its head. GNP’s threat at the end was largely reliant on the solo runs of Emmanuel but it wasn’t enough to regroup and the Lions sadly fell to their 3rd narrow home defeat of the season. PotM awarded to debutant Bhairav.

Under 13 Pumas were entertaining one of the division’s strongest teams in Cov Saracens. Pumas knew what they were up against and wanted to avenge last season’s defeat. Great game for the neutral with strong performancs by both teams. Cov Saracens took the lead after 10 minutes, striking from the edge of the area, looping over Pumas goalkeeper whilst making his way back into position. Armaan levelled things up for the Pumas before hitting an unstoppable shot to put the Pumas ahead 2-1 at the half. Cov Saracens levelled things up in the 2nd half. But some great play down the right by the Pumas, Nathan charged into the penalty area from his right wing position to smash the ball into the back of the net to put the Pumas ahead 3-2. Cov Saracens piled on the pressure with seconds remaining, had a shot cleared off the line by Player of the Match, Armaa. Big win for the Pumas winning 3-2

Meriden Jets vs GNP Under 12 Pumas. The Pumas made a slow start and found themselves 1–0 down within the first five minutes. That early setback sparked them into life, and they began moving the ball around well. Before long, a pinpoint cross from Faris was met with a strong header to bring the scores level. The momentum stayed with the Pumas as they piled on the pressure, creating chance after chance until Lekan found the net to make it 2–1. In the second half, the Pumas continued to press, but a misjudged catch from the goalkeeper allowed the opposition to equalize. Despite dominating possession and carving out numerous opportunities, the Pumas couldn’t find a finishing touch. Against the run of play, an unfortunate slip opened the door for the Jets, who took full advantage to score and seal the game. It was a disappointing result for the Pumas in a match they will feel they should not have lost

Under 12 Jaguars vs Nuneaton Borough Whites. After two back-to-back league wins, the Jaguars faced a tough challenge against Nuneaton Borough Whites this week. With only nine players and no substitutes available, and coming off a demanding midweek friendly, the team knew it would be a difficult match. The game started slowly, with a few uncharacteristic lapses in concentration and decision-making affecting our early play. Midway through the first half, Omar picked up a knock which impacted the team’s defensive strength. By halftime, Nuneaton led 3-0, taking advantage of a few errors. Despite being down to eight players in the second half, the Jaguars showed tremendous spirit and fought hard right up until the final whistle. Ahmed, Arjun C and Noah created several promising chances, and there was a strong penalty appeal when Arjun C was brought down, but unfortunately, it just wasn’t on our day today. While the result was disappointing, the biggest positive was the team’s resilience and determination to keep battling, even when tired and frustrated. This squad is still developing, and with a solid start to the season overall, there is plenty of reason to be optimistic.

Under 10 Tigers were away to Vision Allstars in the 2nd of the Trophy Event matches. Veer kept the Tigers in the match with an absolutely sensational performance inbetween the sticks with some amazing saves and the difference could’ve been a lot more than it was, which earned him Player of the Match recognition. Josiah put in an excellent shift covering practically the whole pitch. With the Tigers falling a few goals down, a defensive mix up from Vision allowed Josiah to pass to Rajan who then coolly slotted home an excellent goal from outside the box. Tigers keep improving week on week and definitely a performance they can be very proud of.

Under 9 Pumas played away against Leamington Orange in a trophy event match. We attacked from the first moment and our front three of Eemaanvir, Kishan and Srihan found themselves in a lot of space. As the first half went on, our defenders were coming forward, and some great play by Srihan and Guransh led to new signing, Rehaan, scoring a goal on his GNP debut. Despite having all of the play and desperately trying to find a second goal, we were caught on the counter-attack in the second half. Our other summer signing Laksh also had a great game, which bodes well for the squad. Despite some questionable refereeing decisions, and the fact we had a depleted squad, the game ended in a draw as we couldn’t make our possession pay. A great game overall and we’re very proud of all the players. Onwards and upwards!

Under 9 Lions played away against Vision at the group stage of the Autumn Trophy event. Both sides were on par with each other with a similar level of threat from both sides. This all changed with a fantastic goal from Dayal. Dayal continued to show great confidence and skill for the remainder of the match with some clever passes in the midfield. Vision now on the back foot attacked with ferocity, tipping the scales in their favour on the scoreline. There were a few free kicks given to both sides, and neither side were able to take advantage of these opportunities. Sam had been a constant pressure in defence, and he was able to score a fantastic goal from outside the box, lifting the spirits of the team. The boys were all set for a draw but in the last minute, Vision were able to scramble a winning goal. It was unfortunate that the boys were unable to maintain parity, but they had a good game. Well done to Dayal, Sam and Balraj for their standout performances!
