SATURDAY - GIRLS
Under 8 Panthers put on a fantastic display in our home fixture against Walmley Colron. From the first whistle, the energy and determination across the pitch were clear to see. Jaye had a brilliant first match, showing real composure and skill throughout. Lily battled hard in every challenge and showed incredible determination, giving everything for the team. Abigail saved some goals between the posts, making a couple of crucial saves at key moments to keep us in the game. Tanaya was strong and determined, setting the tone with her drive. Jasika played excellently, making some dangerous runs and creating opportunities with her pace and vision. Siya was the standout player scoring an incredible 5 goals! The support from the sidelines was, as always, absolutely fantastic. It made such a difference, with coaches and parents beaming with pride at the team's performance and spirit. Well done, everyone!
Under 14 Panthers were at home against 3rd palace Starland Warriors. The Panthers started brightly and matched their opponents all over the park but 3 lapses in concentration meant that the hosts went in 3-0 down. The 2nd half saw the Panthers going uphill and a change in formation was proving difficult for the opposition to cope with. Against the run of play the Panthers found themselves 4-0 down but they continued to fight and were rewarded for their efforts when a near one two between Kia and Poppy resulted in Kia smashing the ball into the roof of the net from just inside the area. The final result was 1-4 but the girls battled till the end and were unlucky not to come away with a least a point
SATURDAY - BOYS
The Under 7 Tigers put in an incredible performance against Lillington Juniors to claim victory. The Tigers started strong with an early goal from Tobias assisted by Rhys. Play continued with excellent passing between Aron and Rhys keeping the pressure on and Joban providing solid defence against Lillington advances. The Tigers had a few more close chances but it was Lillington who took the next goal to draw level. Lucas made a brilliant save to prevent them going ahead before Sahib hit the post and Tobias followed up to clinch a second goal for GNP. Sahib continued to press, picking up the ball at the half way line and running forward to score. In the second half, the excellent play continued resulting in goals for Lucas, Aron and Taran. This enabled powerplay for Lillington but Rayan stood firm in defence to prevent any further goals for them. Joban and Taran worked tirelessly on the wings to create further chances as well as dropping back to defend. A fantastic effort from the whole team!
The Under 7 Lions visited Firefighters, The boys after a break came into the game full of energy ready to get the win. It was end to end action with Kiaan driving at the defence trying to put the Lions ahead he was unlucky not to score with his efforts. Dhillan was applying pressure up top closing down the defenders to try get the opportunity to break the deadlock. Firefighters took the lead against the run of play, the boys didn’t let that affect them. Theo was dangerous every time he got the ball cutting in from the wing with his efforts coming close every time. The game was close with Elliott standing tall at the back and winning every tackle and trying to get the ball to our front players. Thomas made some outstanding saves and when he came out driving at the firefighters defence. Luca came so close as he went past the defence only for his effort going inches past the post. Great effort from the boys - this set of players have come so far this year!
The Under 8 Jaguars and Pumas came together for a GNP derby match this weekend. The teams were evenly matched and it was a tight game from start to finish, with both sets of players giving it their all. The Jaguars had two goals from Bobby and one from Oryn, whereas the Pumas had a goal from Aarush and a brace of free-kicks from Dayal. A great result all round.
GNP Under 8 Tigers played very well for 3/4 of the game against a strong outfit in Christ the King Red. It was a very close game for most parts with Neal scoring an excellent brace from the bench. However a flurry of late goals from CTK in the last quarter took the game away from GNP. Kurren scored an excellent solo goal towards the end. Neal was PotM for his brilliant brace and decisive passing and link up play.
Under 8 Lions played against Vision with only 1 sub and the boys gave it their best. We had a cracking start with a quick goal from Harvey. This roused the Vision team, and it was a constant onslaught for the remainder of the match. Balraj made many wonderful saves including the penalty that was awarded to Vision. By the third quarter, the boys were in complete defensive mode, with the ball and the players remaining in the Lions half for the majority of the match. The boys were persistent and forced a few near misses but the boys unfortunately were not able to produce any further goals to close the gap.
The Under 9 Pumas hosted Cubbington Albion in the final game of the season. The match was played at a high intensity by both sides, with end-to-end action and plenty of close chances. The Pumas opened the scoring with a well taken low-driven shot from Kandes. In the second half, the boys battled hard, with the defence standing strong against multiple attacks. The attackers continued to press and came close to extending the lead. Unfortunately, the Pumas conceded two quick goals but never gave up, pushing forward with numerous attempts on goal that just wouldn’t find the net. Zak was awarded Player of the Match for his excellent defensive work and key passes into dangerous areas. It’s been a fantastic season for the Pumas, full of memorable performances and plenty of high points. Well done to all the boys.
GNP Tigers Under 12s were in action away to Leek Wootton in their last game of the season. Tigers started off slow and went down a goal before bringing themselves back into the game 1-1 HT. Second half Tigers really pilled on the pressure scoring a handful of goals through Harjan Bansal, Aman Dhesi, Muhamadou and Josiah. A great morning of football saw the final score 7-3 to GNP. GNP Tigers finish the season as league champions!!!
GNP Sports introduced their brand new Under 11 Jaguars team to their first match action with an internal friendly against the GNP Under 11 Panthers. As expected, it took time for the Jaguars to settle and the Panthers took advantage, pouncing on a couple of Jaguars defensive mistakes to score well taken 1st half goals through Faith and Suvreet. Nevertheless there were some strong performances from the debutants with Omar robust and decisive at centre back, and Noah and Robin skilful and creative in midfield. The 2nd half was a more competitive display with the Jaguars learning from 1st half mistakes and defending more confidently with a back 3 of Manraj, Harrai & the Jaguars Player of the Match, Gurman K. It became an end to end game but the Jaguars couldn't quite break through the strong backline of Orna & Lizzy, and the boys managed to ward off any further goals from the girls with Morris putting in a solid display in between the sticks as keeper. A well contested match, and a great experience for the boys, getting their first experience of 9v9 match action. Well done to both teams!
SUNDAY - BOYS
Under 16s - no update
Under 13 Tigers hosted 3rd placed Warwick Juniors in an afternoon kick off. Warwick still had a realistic shot of promotion, whilst a GNP win would close the gap between the 2 teams. GNP coaches reminded the boys of the key threats and potential weaknesses of the opponents, and the boys responded brilliantly with an electric start. Muhamadou flew down the left byline and shot across the face of goal with his strike partner Aaron D there to convert at the far post. Minutes later Muhamadou then latched onto a through ball from Harman S and sped past the defence before unleashing an unstoppable left foot volley high into the net. A great start and GNP's dominance of the play continued with Cinar in amazing form down the right flank. Harshaan & Iklil swept up any threat at the back brilliantly whilst Harman B and Prabhvir took turns to close down Warwick's strongest threat in midfield. Against the run of play a Warwick corner was diverted into the net for a GNP own goal, but Muhamadou quickly re-established the 2 goal lead, when Harman S again fed him from the left. This time Muhamadou cut inside and hit a strong shot which was deflected over the keeper and into the far corner. Warwick hit back with a good counter attacking goal but the unstoppable Muhamadou made it 4-2, and sealed his hat trick, assisted by Ehan, who made a welcome return from injury. Literally a minute later, Warwick closed out a ding-dong 1st half with another goal from a corner, with GNP's marking not up to scratch. The play of the Tigers deserved a much bigger lead in the 1st half, so Coach re-iterated the importance of managing the game better and closing the channels to restrict the counter attacks in the 2nd half. The game duly dried up of goals early in the 2nd half until Emmanuel went on a jinking run down the right before cutting in and smashing the ball past the keeper at the near post. Soon after, Muhamadou claimed his 4th, robbing the away midfielder of possession before going on a tremendous run - he beat the defence and rounded the keeper before slotting home into the empty net to seal the win. In the closing minutes some good work down the left saw Arjun cut the ball across for Saavun to slot home and make the final score a super-impressive 7-3 win against strong opponents. This was probably the team's best performance of the season and continued the 6 match league unbeaten run - Well done Tigers!
Under 13 Lions visited Southam Utd in their penultimate league match, barely scratching together a team. However it proved to be the team's most complete performance of the season, dominating from start to finish! Good control of the game from the defence and midfield gave the attackers plenty to feed off, with Del scoring 2 first half goals, assisted by Filip and then Arjun. Arjun then added a brace of goals of his own, nicely set up by Jasraj and then Sahib. Sahib then finished off the 1st half scoring in style at 5-0 - a through ball from Harry sent him down the left - he cut inside and then launched a high shot from 20 yards which the keeper could not get near! 2nd half was more fragmented as positions were swapped to rest tired legs. However a late burst saw further goals from Filip, Del and a first goal for the club for defender William, who had a short, but fruitful cameo on the right wing! Well played Lions - Terrific performance!
Under 12 Pumas had a home fixture against Bedworth Eagles. Pumas missing a number of players for today’s fixture. A dominant first half performance by the Pumas who were unable to convert their many chances. Pumas took the lead through Mikaeel Hussain who scored his first ever goal for GNP. Bedworth Eagles were limited to one shot on goal only in the first half which was superbly saved by Pumas goalkeeper Harrison Eyden. However 2nd half Pumas took their foot off the pedal, with Bedworth going 3-1 ahead. Pumas piled on the pressure, pulled one back through an own goal before Bedworth struck the killer blow, getting themselves a 4th with a minute to go. Final score GNP 2-4 Bedworth Eagles.
Under 11 Lions were away to Sphinx White. Sphinx started very well and took the game to GNP. Half way through the opening period, GNP started to get a foothold and were rewarded with a goal - great free kick from Sehaj which found the back of the next. GNP went into half time a goal up. 2nd half it was again pretty even and chances for both sides. Sphinx got a goal back, but another great strike from Sehaj restored the lead and Sphinx scored their 2nd with 10 minutes to go. The game ended all square and it was probably a fair result.
Under 11 Tigers were in action in the league against a very good Alvis team. The Tigers started off brightly but soon conceded the first from an unstoppable shot. They then fell further behind with a mix up on a corner. Alvis further increased their lead. Tigers kept going and in the second half got a deserved goal from Shaan. Tigers fell to ultimate defeat but a good batting performance against a very good team.
Under 11 Pumas - no update
Under 10 Tigers played Coundon Cockerels at home. Tigers started slow and lacked their usual fluid passing. Playing a high line, we failed to deal with a long ball, which led to the opener. Within 10 minutes, the away side added 3 more goals, largely down to uncharacteristic errors. Half chances were made in the other end, Jai coming closest, hitting the bar. The Tigers started to gain more confidence and were able to pull a goal back. The second half was a much improved performance, and Akaalvir smartly finished an opportunity before Nathaniel added his second with a determined finish. Ultimately, it was a few errors and missed chances, which cost the Tigers today, that said it was an excellent response in the second half. PotM went to Akaalvir for his determined performance, topped off with a smart goal.
Under 9 Tigers were up against Leamington Brakes. Lacklustre defending and chances not taken, the Tigers were 4-0 behind pretty quickly. With no subs, the Tigers dug deep. An extraordinary effort from Salman saw the Tigers pull a goal back before half time. Second half brought more attacking football with Rajan a real handful for the opponents to manage up front. Arveer’s persistence paid off when he scored from a great shot outside the box. Player of the Match Joban did an excellent job in defence. The Tigers continued to press and were definitely well on top in the second half. Ollie looked safe in goal as he had some difficult shots to save. Veer on the left wing did a fab job with some excellent passes before link up play between Arveer and Josiah saw Josiah score a superb goal. Although the Tigers lost, they can be very proud of their 2nd half performance.
