GNP SPORTS FC WEEKLY UPDATE - 20/21 September 2025

Jat Grewal22 Sep - 10:13

Under 8 Lions roar to make it three in a row at the start of the season!!

Another jam-packed week of action at GNP Sports FC with all but 2 of our teams in action across League, Trophy Event and Evaluation fixtures.

Several of our teams continued their fine starts to the league campaigns, with U14 Tigers, U14 Panthers, U13 Pumas, U12 Jaguars & U12 Pumas all in promotion positions at this early stage of the season!

In non competitive age groups, our U7 Tigers, U8 Lions & U10 Lions all continued their fantastic 100% starts to their seasons. Well done to everyone!

TUESDAY – GIRLS

The Under 9 Panthers first away fixture of the season was against Coventrians Jaguar Youth U8 Wildcats, and it proved to be a well-contested match with both sides showing real determination and character throughout. Jackie opened the scoring with a superb left-footed strike, setting the tone early on. Not long after, Siya slotted home a powerful finish following a strong run down the right flank. The middle period of the game brought a few challenges, including a soft penalty decision that went against us. However, the team responded brilliantly, showing great resilience and spirit with Lily making an outstanding goal line clearance and Shreya making some important saves. Late on, Abigail found the net with a composed finish, and Siya added her second to cap off a strong attacking display. Although the match ended in a narrow defeat, the performance was full of positives. The players demonstrated clear progress, plenty of fight, and real promise!

SATURDAY – MEN’S

The Senior team remained unbeaten in the league after a 1-1 draw in their away game at Coventry Phoenix Reserves in Coventry Alliance Div 1. They will want to convert some of these into wins to avoid the same fate as last season when a promising start petered out into a mid-table finish.

SATURDAY – GIRLS

The Under 15 Panthers first game of the season was against a former Premier division team South Redditch Eagles. The Panthers put on a battling display and had some chances of their own but lost 11-0 against a team full of players with real quality all over the pitch. Despite the scoreline the Panthers gave 110% until the final whistle!

Under 14 Panthers were away to Dream Chasers. The home team started off positively and were physically stronger winning their duels. The Panthers then started to find their feet, creating plenty of opportunities but struggled with the final shot on goal. Panthers got hit on the break conceding 10 minutes before half time. A positive team talk and the Panthers were straight into action knowing it was just a matter of time. Jah’Dae laid off a great ball into space for Anaya who scored with a long range effort. This then led to the Panthers really pressing home their dominance with plenty more shots that followed. Ekham made a brilliant long pass to Lizzie who then put Mankirat into space to make it 2-1 which is how it finished. Great spirit from the Panthers who never gave up and a result they worked hard for, highlighting the fab team spirit!

GNP Under 12 Panthers were away to Leamington Lions on Saturday on a windy morning. Unlike their first game of the season, this time they started slowly and it was Leamington who used the sloped pitch and the wind to their advantage. Panthers down 3-0 at the break. 2nd half saw a marked improvement with the girls taking the fight to Leamington and seemingly getting to grips with the opposition midfield. Leamington added a fourth on the break after waves of Panthers attacks. Suvreet pulled one back and then added another shortly after with a couple of nice finishes to give Leamington the jitters for the last 5 minutes. But it wasn't to be in the end; despite a spirited 2nd half Panthers performance, GNP went down 4-2.

Kenilworth Wardens Falcons hosted GNP Under 11 Panthers. This Saturday fixture saw the Panthers come out fighting against a formidable team. The match started at a fast pace and saw the Wardens dominating territorially, with a flurry of attempts at goal, pushing GNP back. 2 strong attempts at goal were beaten away by Poppy, but a third effort proved too powerful and broke the deadlock. Further goals were added by Wardens, including a penalty to close out the half. The 2nd half saw a renewed effort from the Panthers with excellent energy levels, making it a much more competitive affair. Hope and Lily delivered some dangerous corners and passing through the midfield really started to come together. Unfortunately, this was not the day to bring it back. There was never a point at which the girls stopped fighting, and this was great to see from the Panthers girls as they step up to this more competitive environment.

SATURDAY – BOYS

Under 7 Lions hosted Rugby Borough Bears this weekend. The Lions started fast with an opening goal by Gian, followed by another by Mikey. Aathi was tremendous in defence and distribution this quarter. In the 2nd quarter, Rugby came back into the match with a lot of possession and efforts on goal, however Jeevan was excellent in goal and Tommy, Aarav and Harvansh were unlucky not to extend the lead. During the third quarter, two quick goals by Rugby brought the game back to level, only for Gian to score his 2nd goal to restore the Lions lead. The final quarter was action-packed; Rugby equalised early on and then had a penalty, which went just wide. Shivaay was superb in goal in the final quarter, and Lucas gave a very mature performance, which gave confidence to the team. Both teams believed they could find a winner before the final whistle. With seconds to go, Mikey found himself one on one and coolly finished for his 2nd goal of the game and a decisive one, proving to be the last kick of the game!

Under 7 Tigers had a particularly fast paced, nail-biting game against SoccerRockz Saxons. Fortunately, Tobias was solid in defence and Joban made some great saves in goal as the Saxons applied early pressure. Tobias and Joban made a great duo at the back and were able to get the ball up field effectively. However the Saxons pressured our team well and managed to get a goal in the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter saw the boys taking a few shots and Marsels had a strong effort on target that was saved. Cameron put in some strong crosses and corners, however as in the first quarter the Saxons kept the pressure and got themselves another goal. In the 3rd quarter Uday was particularly strong in defence and David, Rehmat and Yunus showed great energy and thirst for the ball. This led to our first goal from Tobias. The boys were given a team talk along the lines of ‘the Tigers never give up’, and give up they did not! David was next to score with a knee slide celebration to follow, and with united determination and belief Cameron was set up by Marsels with a lovely goal to take them into the lead. The last few minutes were tense but the Tigers held on and secured a fabulous result. What a comeback!

Under 8 Lions vs Coundon Court Boys. The Lions were at home, full of confidence, aiming to make it three positive results in a row. They showed their intent. With Elliott getting the Lions off to a dream start, pressing high and scoring two early goals to give the team a great platform. In a change of role, Theo slotted in at centre-back and looked right at home, making crucial last-ditch tackles and keeping things tidy at the back. After the break, Coundon Court found their rhythm and struck back quickly, scoring three in five minutes to turn the game on its head. But, as seen in previous matches, the Lions dug deep and showed their resilience. Luca dazzled with some brilliant footwork ,Kiaan worked tirelessly off the ball. The equaliser came through Elliott who showed real class by wrong-footing the defender and finishing coolly to complete a well-deserved hat-trick. The momentum shifted again when, Sahib full of energy, pounced on a loose ball from a goal kick and calmly slotted home to give the Lions the lead. Moments later, a clever short corner routine saw Sahib turn provider, setting up Jagraaj who blasted a powerful strike into the net – his 1st goal of the season after a few weeks out! Dhillan was a constant threat with his excellent deliveries from wide. As the game neared its end, it was Theo who capped off a brilliant all-round display by pressing high and finishing smartly to seal the win. In goal, Evan was outstanding throughout, making a string of superb saves to keep the Lions in the game. PoTM: Elliott – for his brilliant hat-trick and relentless energy throughout. Well done, Lions!

The rebuilding of the Under 8 tigers continues and this week the boys tried valiantly to bring improved passing to the game. Unfortunately they were still finding their feet in the first quarter and went down by a margin leaving an uphill struggle ahead of them. The boys kept their heads up and went on to match Coventry Utd over the next two quarters including one passing move that went through the whole team for Rhys to fire home, bearing fruit from the training and the huge potential the team has. Milkias and Naod both showed some defending and dribbling skill, starting to gain increased confidence as the team’s newest players. Petru got his first goal of the season and everyone put in 100%. Week on week improvements from the boys and it’s only a matter of time before it clicks.

This weekend, the Under 9 Jaguars faced a formidable Woodford United side featuring several high-ability players, including a standout goalkeeper. From the outset, it was clear this would be a challenging match — but the Jaguars rose to the occasion with determination, skill, and heart. While the final score was not in our favour, the performance told a different story. The team defended with strength and attacked with pace and width, earning praise from the opposition coach, who noted that the scoreline didn’t reflect the quality of play. Mithun earned Player of the Match for his commanding presence in defence and dynamic runs on the wing, causing real problems for Woodford. Stan brought fresh energy up front, reinvigorating the attack, and Varun celebrated his first goal of the season — a well-deserved moment of joy! Throughout the match, the Jaguars showed unwavering intensity and resilience, keeping their heads high and their teamwork strong!

The Under 10 Lions faced off against Under 10 Jaguars in a Mid Warwickshire League GNP derby match. Both teams came out fighting with chances at both ends of the pitch creating dynamic shifts to the game. An early goal from Sahib of the Lions set the pace. Despite opportunities to extend our lead, or potentially concede, which resulted in Sehaj making a few good saves, we maintained a competitive edge. The 2nd half saw a significant improvement, with better passing utilising the whole pitch! Nikhil and Yuvraaj solidified our advantage. While Jake from the Jaguars picked up the ball from the Lions half to make a solo run, beating everyone in his path to drive into the net. However, this only fueled the Lions determination, resulting in further goals from Nikhil, Fakhir, Veer and Sahib, securing a victory for the Lions. Fakhir's performance earned him the Player of the Match award. An unbeaten start to the season for the Lions!

Under 10 Pumas played away to Sporting Rugby. A bright start for both teams who had a number of attacking chances however the opposition were clinical in front of goal which found the Pumas trailing. The boys showed heart and resilience and tried to get a goal back, with Eric also making some spectacular saves in goal. The team showed even more intensity after the restart and managed to pull one back with Harvey's brilliant attempt from outside the box. The opponents added more goals before full time, but the Pumas pushed the pace right until the end. Archie was awarded PotM for his outstanding work rate, and determination across the pitch.

SUNDAY – BOYS

GNP Under 17s put on a dominant performance away to Hillmorton. We started the game strong with skipper Archie B and new recruit Archie W on the scoresheet to put us 2-0 up. A moment to note would be our CB Jatin with an unbelievable goal line clearance, which helped maintain momentum. A touch of magic from the technically gifted Dylan, who curled a beautiful finesse shot into the top bins to put us 3 ahead. Hillmorton managed to grasp onto a long ball and put the pressure on with a goal before half time. However, this was quickly neutralised by some brilliant pressing from Archie B to grab his second. Going into the second half 4-1 up, with a solid display from our backline and some top saves from goalkeeper Lewis, confidence was high, but Hillmorton came out strong, managing to bag 2 goals against the run of play. The boys showed desire, worked hard for each other, and Archie hit a lovely weak foot finish to end the game 5-3, completing his hat-trick. First win of the season, with a great team display!

Under 14 Lions visited Coventry Utd White looking to put 2 unfortunate early season defeats behind them. The motivational team talk seemed to have fallen on deaf ears as the Lions made a very poor start in a scrappy opening. They allowed the imposing winger to run through unchallenged on 2 occasions and were punished both times as he slotted shots past keeper Daniel. GNP pushed and created chances with Harry and Mario combining well but the goal wouldn’t come until the 21st minute, when the same duo combined for Mario to score a smartly constructed goal. The subs again made a positive impact on the game. Aaron & Mohammed constantly made smart decisions with Mohammed teeing up Mario for a fantastic equaliser, before Ashwin tucked away a rebound for his first GNP goal after Harry’s shot was saved. Ryan & Theo brought solidity in the full back positions. 2nd half was generally one way traffic as United’s 11 men tired at the end. Mario added 2 more goals for his hat trick, and further goals were added by Reon, Harry, Sahib & Emmanuel who produced an impactful 10 minute cameo as striker replacement for Mario. Final score 2-9 to GNP!

An injury hit Under 14 Tigers hosted Coventry Phoenix Blaze in what proved to be a high intensity encounter. The team was reshuffled with 3 key players now unavailable plus the in-form Harman B picking up a knock in the warm-up. The start was just what was needed with Muhamadou making a dazzling trademark dribble down the left before firing the ball across the face of goal; strike partner Ayden was in the right place to score at the far post. Blaze gave as good as they got in the 1st half, but Enoch was incredible at Centre Back sweeping up the constant danger! GNP were settled when keeper, Wiktor, provided his 2nd assist in 2 weeks, setting Ayden clear to lob the onrushing keeper from 25 yards to make it 2-0 and Muhamadou made it 3-0 on the half time whistle having been released by Enoch. In the 2nd half GNP had plenty of defending to do with Harshaan prominent with late tackles, blocks and interceptions and Wiktor also making 2 smart saves. But GNP added goals at regular intervals, first Muhamadou robbing the keeper and scoring in the empty net, before wing back, Saavun, added 2 sublime goals to his impressive collection after leaving the Phoenix defenders and keeper in a complete daze! Final score 6-0 and a fantastic all round performance from the whole team! PotM: Ayden

Under 14 Pumas hosted Nuneaton Borough in what was a competitive game. GNP created the lions share of the chances but just couldn’t convert them into goals. Sadly a few simple mistakes at the other end caused difficulties and Borough were able to capitalise on this to take a 1-3 away win and leave them top of the table. GNP Pumas are newly formed this season, so it will naturally take some weeks to settle down, but they have already shown they are competitive in this division in their 2 opening league games.

Under 13 Pumas visited Bedworth Eagles in league action. A one-sided affair, it was all about how many could the Pumas score. Pumas took the lead within seconds of the kickoff, through Pumas new boy, Evan. And GNP were then 3-0 up within the first few minutes. The onslaught continued with the Pumas hitting the back of the Bedworth net 11 times in the first half. Bedworth were awarded a first half penalty which was saved by Pumas goalkeeper, Harrison, Bedworth reacted to the save quickly, striking an effort on goal which was goal bound, only to be cleared off the line by Armaan. But Bedworth again reacted quickly to get themselves a much needed goal before half time. A slow start by the Pumas in the 2nd half, 15 minutes passing before Pumas started hitting the back of the Bedworth net, adding another 5 in the 2nd half. Bedworth did manage to get themselves a 2nd consolation. Pumas recorded their biggest ever win 16-2. Pumas’ goal scorers were - Evan 4, Nathan 4, Arun 3, Armaan 2, Rohan 2 & Baaj 1.

The GNP Under 12 Jaguars won 3-2 against Grove Farm Pavilion, dominating possession and play. Goals from Noah's penalty and Armaan's finish gave them a 2-0 halftime lead, and Arjun's strike extended it to 3-0. Despite conceding two late goals, the team held on for the victory. The manager praised the team's performance, highlighting the contributions of debutants Jovan and Gurman K, and Noah's player-of-the-match display. The team showed great potential and is looking forward to continued growth and improvement.

Under 12 GNP Pumas vs Coventry Saracens. The Pumas kicked off strong, pressuring the Saracens defence from the get-go. Kian had an early opportunity, but his shot sailed over the bar. The Pumas quickly capitalized on their momentum, scoring their first goal when Faris delivered a precise cross to Ziyyad, who expertly slotted the ball past the keeper. The second goal followed suit, with Ziyyad providing a pinpoint cross from the right flank, allowing Lekan to control and slot the ball into the net. Heading into halftime, the Pumas held a 2-0 lead. The 2nd half saw the Pumas continue to dominate possession. Lekan netted his second goal of the game with a well-taken header from Jaiden's cross, and just moments later, he completed his hat-trick with a brilliant pass from Shivan. Pumas continued to create scoring chances. Mason, Jaxx, Jaiden, Shivan, and Ziyyad all had opportunities to score. The Pumas' defence, led by Jovan, Ruben and Faris, was solid, limiting the Saracens' scoring opportunities. Goalkeeper Sam also made some crucial saves. One defensive error did lead to a consolation goal for Saracens who played well, but overall it was an impressive and dominant performance from the Pumas!

The Under 12 Tigers welcomed Bedworth United Mavericks for their latest home fixture, and the game did not disappoint. It was a match packed with goals, drama, and plenty of talking points. First Half: Bedworth started strongly and broke the deadlock early, putting the Tigers under pressure. The response, however, was excellent. After some neat build-up play, Jude showed great composure to finish clinically and bring the Tigers level. The equaliser gave the boys confidence, but just before half-time Bedworth edged back in front, 2nd Half: The visitors came out flying after the restart and managed to add several goals in quick succession. At that stage, the scoreline looked harsh on the Tigers, who had battled hard but were punished for lapses in concentration and positional discipline. The Tigers refused to give in; Reece pulled one back with a well-taken strike before Jude added his second of the game with another sharp finish. A flurry of attacking play saw the Tigers add two more, and suddenly the comeback looked very much on. The boys had Bedworth pinned back and the momentum was all theirs. Unfortunately, a late goal for the visitors halted the fightback and ensured the points went Bedworth’s way. While the result didn’t go in the Tigers’ favour, there were many positives to take. The resilience, effort, and refusal to give up showed just how much character this new-look side has. The attacking play, especially during the second-half surge, was excellent and demonstrated what this team is capable of when they’re on the front foot. Player of the Match joint honours went to Malachi, who worked tirelessly in midfield and never stopped battling, and Nivishan, who showed outstanding commitment and energy throughout the game. Another step forward for this exciting squad, with lessons learned and plenty to build on as the season continues.

Under 12 Lions were up against Cov Sphinx Yellow, in what proved to be a tough away fixture. The first 15 mins were very competitive and the Lions were giving as good as they were getting. Once the first goal went in, Sphinx expertly found space and punished us and took a 4-0 lead into half time. The Lions went out in the 2nd half and once again, for the first 15 minutes of the half, remained pretty solid, but once Sphinx got going, the Lions were punished and conceded a further 5 goals. A steep learning curve for the Lions in Div A, playing two of the strongest teams in the league back to back. Player of the match went to Evan, first game back since he suffered concussion on the opening weekend of the season, and he put in a solid all round shift.

GNP Under 11 Tigers came into their 3rd Trophy Event game against Panjab Athletic. The game started off with a lot of dominant play from GNP however a through ball opened the GNP defence and allowed PA to take the lead. A few minutes after conceding the first, the opposition found another through ball, falling to the striker who made it 2. After conceding, GNP got their deserved goal through Sohan who found himself 1 on 1 and finished with composure. PA scored and made it 3-1 following a defensive mishap. After a bright start in the 2nd half GNP found themselves with brilliant chances but couldn’t finish and instead allowed Panjab to extend their lead by a further 2 goals due to miscommunication amongst the defence. Soon after Harry found himself with a 1v1 and finished it to make it 5-3. PotM went to Chimdubem with his resilience and determined performance.

Under 10 Tigers were up against Leamington Brakes in their first Trophy Event match. Game started off evenly with the Tigers matching the opposition’s intensity. Tigers however went behind, but they didn’t give up and a fabulous assist by Veer put Tyrae in who took his goal ever so well. Tigers got hit just before half time as they conceded a goal. Second half a lack of discipline in their positional play and some tired legs meant they conceded a number of goals, losing the match comfortably. Some notable performances by Arveer who put in a shift in Central Midfield, earned him Player of the Match, along with Patryk who looked very strong.

Under 9 Pumas played at home against Lillington FC. It was an early start on a sunny morning, and our boys came out of the blocks quickly. We took an early lead through some great attacking play, with Eemaanvir scoring our first goal. Unfortunately the opposition came back quickly and scored three goals from long-range efforts and counter-attacks. Hugh hit the post from a penalty but later scored to almost get us back in the game, before the opposition took advantage of our tired legs and killed off the game in the final minutes by scoring another goal from a set piece. Overall, an unfortunate loss but a good effort, with plenty to learn from for the rest of the season.

The Under 9 Lions had a match against the Whitnash Wanderers. The game was split into four quarters. This proved to be a one sided game with the boys on the back foot from the offset. The boys defended consistently throughout the game with the majority of the game played in our half. Harnam broke through in the third quarter, to get on the score sheet. This was fuel to the fire for the opposition as they increased their attacking efforts, leading to defeat for GNP and no chance to equalise. Chin up boys and come back fighting again next week.
