Tournament success for Under 10 Tigers in Leamington!

This weekend saw a combination of the final league fixtures of the season, along with the start of summer tournaments, with some of our teams heading down the road to Khalsa FC in Leamington on Sunday. We saw some brilliant performances across the 2 days, again showing what a good state we are in as a football club!

SATURDAY - GIRLS

Under 8 Panthers visited Coventrians Girls and what a game the girls played! The impressive footwork displayed left the onlookers gobsmacked. Roop with with her dragbacks and turns led the players in different directions. Forming a double-act with Rhea who surprised the other team in stealth mode leading to her two goals. Elizabeth was formidable in her tackles and attack and did not give up and kept pursuing every opportunity thrown her way. Aish and Poppy formed a fantastic duo in defence preventing many goals and some fantastic saves. The girls played a match to be proud of and made all parents super proud too!

In their final match of the season, the Under 11 Panthers made a promising start by taking the lead in the first 2 minutes. A throw in from Ekham gave Avani the opportunity to get a goal past the defence. Harper made some key saves throughout the first half preventing the opposition from taking a bigger lead. The 2nd half was stronger for the Panthers, with skilled footwork from Mankirat and powerful kicks up the pitch from Ekham. Avani missed out on a second shot on goal sadly, but a strong game for the Panthers to finish on nevertheless.

SATURDAY - BOYS

Under 7 Tigers were home to Christ the King. The game was evenly balanced throughout and there were some exceptional performances with Balraj scoring a hat trick and Aryan scoring a goal from outside the box. As we headed into the final minute with the game evenly poised a penalty was awarded to the Tigers. With the last kick of the match, Aryan stepped up and brought it home to finish off an impressive debut season for the Tigers!

Under 7 Lions played away to Hillmorton Warriors. The boys ran their socks off on a warm, sunny morning. Attharv scored a brace and Rivan capped off the scoring. Manroop and Rajan put a real shift in and worked hard to keep the tempo intense. A great performance & result and nice way to end the season.

Under 8 Tigers played at home against Lawford United. Without goalkeeper, Samarvir and some players rotating positions the Tigers were a little panicked at the back. The visitors took advantage and were on top in the first half. The Tigers dug in after the break, coming from 3 goals down, clinching the winner in the last few mins. Shawn was the standout player with another stellar performance. Goals from him, Jai and Raqeeb got the Tigers the result.

Under 7 Pumas hosted this weekends match against Hillmorton Blues. A slow start from the boys, conceding early on, however the team rallied by creating a number of chances as the game progressed. Pumas lacked that cutting edge in front of goal which was a theme for the day. Hillmorton capitalised on their opportunities and extended the lead into the break. The 2nd interval saw the Pumas come back into the match with some great passages of play, this was rewarded with a flurry of consolation goals which left the result respectable. Much better response from the boys in the 2nd half, with some positives to take out of the performance. Player of the Match Sunny Mattu showing good determination and energy through the match, with a goal to cap it off.

Under 7 Juniors played against Poppys starting by defending well with some great interceptions from Ruben and Angad. After some back and forth, Poppys took the lead and were able to capitalise with some more quick goals. GNP got a couple of goals back either side of half time, both via Agam, with Dhanveer making some great saves at the other end. However Poppy's then took control again to come out on top as they scored goals before Juniors got a consolation goal just before the last whistle. Great effort by the boys. Standout player was Angad due to some strong interceptions at the back.

SUNDAY - BOYS

GNP Under 11 Tigers hosted Hillmorton Clarets on the final day of their league season and put on a dazzling attacking display in the sunshine. Enoch set them on their way in the 1st minute and further goals were added by Iklil, Arjun, and a hat trick apiece for Ayden (his 2nd treble in consecutive games) and player of the match Elio, who was in blistering form. The standard of the goals was sublime and the ferocity of the GNP attacks completely demoralised the opponents, who did manage 2 goals of their own, both from rebounds. The Tigers squad has improved yet again this season and finish with an impressive league record which puts them in strong contention for Division A football in September when it all becomes competitive at Under 12s.

SUNDAY - KHALSA FC LEAMINGTON TOURNAMENT

The Under 7 Tigers were also in cup action at the Leamington Khalsa tournament. They won their first 4 matches but unfortunately lost their last game to finish as runners up.

The Under 10 Tigers went one better and came home from the Khalsa FC tournament as winners, going through the whole event without conceding a goal! Special mention for the three Under 9 Tigers players who played a year up! Congratulations to our very own Invincibles!
