More wet weather wiped out the Sunday programme almost entirely, but some venue changes allowed several games to go ahead on Saturday. The girls teams continued their Festival event whilst we saw some of our in-form boys teams continue their great league runs! Highlight has to be the avalanche of goals witnessed in the Under 8 Lions match this week, with our very own Rajan bagging six himself!
SATURDAY - GIRLS
Under 10 Panthers travelled to Knowle Swifts in a reversed fixture in their February Festival Trophy Event. The girls got off to the worst possible start conceding 2 early goals. Avneet started the fightback scoring our first and it was to remain that way through to half time. After the break the girls found their mojo playing some fantastic football and got a well deserved equaliser from Suvreet, assisted by Avneet. The girls pushed hard for the win but playing without subs they tired in the end to earn a 2-2 draw. The match also saw Wildcats graduate, Becky, make her debut. With other matches cancelled, the result leaves the Panthers top of their group with 2 games to play.
SATURDAY - BOYS
Under 8 Lions played Cov Jag in an entertaining goal-fest. The Lions started slowly and were several goals down by half time. However Rivan, Fakhir and Rajan began to turn the screw in the second half and got stuck in. Goals from Fakhir and Arjun got us back in the game. PotM was Rajan who was simply unplayable today and peerless in midfield, bagging an incredible double hat trick!
Under 8 Pumas faced Hawkesmill Eagles looking to continue a positive run of recent results. They caught Hawkesmill napping in the opening exchanges with Harvey pouncing on a loose ball before driving into the box & finishing. Further goals followed from Sunny & PotM, Ife (2) to give GNP a deserved and clear half time lead. Ajeet, Yash & David kept things secure at the back, and Harvey added his 2nd in the 2nd half to extend the lead again! Hawkesmill pulled back a late consolation but it didn't deter from a great day at the office for the Pumas! Well done boys!
Under 8 Tigers were up against Nuneaton Borough. The boys started off well, playing with a new formation and they settled in well. Dara and Jovan were strong at the back closing down the opposition very well. Arveer showed ferocity in making vital blocks and pressing when needed. Nuneaton Borough opened the scoring after 10 minutes and scored consistently throughout the game. The scoreline could’ve been bigger if it wasn’t for some vital saves by Kaydon. Eesa’s movement continued to be excellent in the match. It was, however, Salman who stole the show with his excellent overall performance. He won most of his 121 battles and scored a great goal - surely the first of many. Overall a really pleasing performance despite the result and one the boys can be proud of!
Under 7 Lions played Coventry Sphinx White in an away game and fell to a loss in a rather one sided match. There were 2 goals in it at the break with some hope for the Lions still. Samar had scored an exceptional goal direct from a corner kick. But it turned out to be a disappointing day overall for the team as they continued to concede in the 2nd half.
Under 7 Pumas played at home against Coventry Phoenix Blaze. We didn’t get out of the blocks at all, which resulted in a very one-sided match with heavy defeat against strong opposition. Our goalkeeper Dayal kept the scoreline down, and our striker Arthur kept trying to find a way through, right to the end.
SUNDAY - BOYS
The in-form Under 9 Lions came out on top in a thriller against Coventry Phoenix Blaze. Two early mistakes by our team and two goals by the prolific Anopa saw the teams go in level at half time. Second half saw the Lions mainly in the other teams half but missing the chances, until a glorious shot from outside of the box from Awais to clinch the winner and his first goal for the team. We witnessed a celebration to match the occasion!
