Week 2 of the new season and another busy one, spiced up this week by the Under 9s GNP Derby!
SATURDAY - GIRLS
Under 9 Panthers came face to face with Leafield once again, with a fire in their belly. The girls were determined to score and prevent another defeat. With fantastic saves from Poppy and a goal from Jodh, the girls were pushing forward However, the game became increasingly defensive as the Leafield momentum & lead built. Well done girls for putting up a good fight and coming back stronger.
Under 10 Panthers came up against local rivals Coundon Court. The girls didn’t have any subs, but you would have not known. The young Panthers peppered the opposition goal constantly, hitting the woodwork 3 times. The goal did eventually come when a loose ball in the box was converted by Avneet. Ariana added a further 2 goals including a worldie from near the half way line! The girls did tire in the second half but stood firm. A perfect performance - well done girls!
Under 12 Panthers put in a resilient a performance against Kenilworth Wardens with a squad of the bare 9 players. It was an opportunity for the girls to trial different positions on the pitch, seeing Dhanroop and Isla up front and Avani supporting Ekham in defence. Jeevani made her debut with the Panthers, with Harper stepping in as goalkeeper. The girls took time to adjust to their positions early on, but came back strong in the 2nd half. Isla made an attempt on goal supported by Dhanroop driving the ball up the pitch. Achint came through with some strong tackles, with Harper also making some great saves. Avani's performance in defence was highly commendable, earning her PotM.
Following the Under 13 Panthers dream debut last week, came a visit to an experienced Khalsa Lionesses. A foul on the first attack gifted a penalty to Khalsa who found the bottom corner. The Panthers found it difficult dealing with the direct & pacy attack of Khalsa and found themselves 4-0 down at half time. The 2nd half started to follow the same pattern as the first, but the Panthers were growing into the game with some good runs from Bianca and Gursimran. Despite falling further behind, a lovely run from Gursimran down the left resulted in a pinpoint cross to Bianca who beat the keeper with a lovely finish, and had another fine strike ruled out for offside. Final score 9-1.
SATURDAY - BOYS
The Under 7 Tigers played their first home game and started strong, attacking and scoring within the minute. An incredible triple hat trick by Arjun gave the tigers a huge lead at half team. Further goals resulted in a sizeable first win for the Tigers. PotM was awarded to Arjun for a great all-round performance. Well done Tigers!
Under 7 Lions were pitched away to Cov Jag Youth. Lions conceded early in the first minute which set them back against opponents who were clearly further along in their grassroots football journey and continued to score further to take a huge lead. GNP scored just before the half time break with Harnam opening their account for the day. 2nd half proved again the disparity between the teams and the final scoreline reflected such. But overall, the GNP boys showed tremendous effort against a more experienced side and it was a good test for the boys to get some more minutes in and learn from a position of adversity.
Under 7 Pumas played at home to Hilmorton Clarets in their 2nd evaluation fixture. The boys had a good start but couldn’t contain the away wingers who were pulling the GNP defence away from their striker. The final scoreline doesn’t reflect how well the team played, with standout performances from Guransh in midfield and Dayal in goals.
Under 8 Pumas participated in an entertaining game against an impressive Hillmorton Blues team. Coach Sunny was proud of the boys resolve to get some goals back in the 2nd half after a tough 1st half. Shout out to Yash, PotM, who played both his positions really well and nabbed 2 goals. It was great to see Harvey & Musa also on the scoresheet, and some brilliant saves by Ife inbetween the sticks.
Under 8 Jaguars played against Alvis Eagles. The boys started off well and went close at times. The opposition scored on the counter-attack prior to half time. 2nd half, the boys played well and kept pushing forward for a goal. Their efforts paid off when Agam scored a goal to equalise. Angad played well in defence and Gavin made some great saves to keep us in the game. The game ended all square but a great effort by the boys.
Under 8 Lions played away to Coventrians Jaguars. Rivan and Rajan both scoring a brace, with Fakhir and Giaan also on the score sheet. Brave saves from Sehaj although it proved to not be enough to secure the result the boys fought for.
The Under 8 Tigers were up against the Under 9 GNP Tigers in a friendly. It was another fantastic display with some great passing and teamwork. Another fine hat-trick from Eesa, a screamer from Dara, goals from Varun and Jovan with Kaydon looking assured in goal. Well done to MOTM Dara for his overall strong contribution!
SUNDAY - BOYS
A great internal Derby game for the Under 9 Lions against Under 9 Tigers. A thriller in the end, edged by the Lions. The Lions held their nerve coming back from going down early on to make a great comeback. Great hat trick by Raqeeb, two further goals from Anopa, with assists by George and Shrihan. Solid goalkeeping by Louai and a robust defensive performance by the rest of the boys. Good to see the team gelling and combining for a collective performance!
Under 10 Lions were away against Wolston. It was a solid display from the Lions, winning their battles all over the pitch. Sehaj opened the scoring, and Ryan added a second in the 2nd half. Wolston battled back to close the deficit before Evan restored the 2 goal cushion. A pleasing match as the Lions try to establish themselves in League Tier 2. Player of the match was Arjun Sumal for a solid display at the back.
Under 10 Pumas played CTK Rovers in what proved to be a very competitive game against a strong team. A lot of the first half was played in the middle of the park, then a lovely through ball to Axel who broke away from the defender and slotted the ball past the keeper. This theme continued when Axel broke through again and made it 2-0. Second half the opposition came out stronger and Pumas conceded a goal at the mid point. A solid defensive display and some great goalkeeping from Mason ensured Pumas secured the result.
GNP Under 10 Tigers were at home up against Cov Sphinx Yellows, 2 teams that always produce a great spectacle. This game was no different, with both teams playing some great football. But it was Sphinx that took the lead and then quickly doubled their advantage. Tigers remained resilient and reduced the deficit via Jaylan. With Tigers pushing 2nd half, a breakaway led to another for Sphinx. But again, the Tigers came back with Reece dispatching a header from a Kyle corner. Pushing again for the equaliser, against the run of play Sphinx settled the game with another goal. Great game and great performance by the boys against very good opposition.
Under 11s Pumas entertained Brinklow Colts in their 2nd TE game. It proved to be one that the Pumas completely controlled from the moment we kicked off. Aaron Dhaliwal put GNP into the lead after 30 seconds and then earning himself further goals as the game went on. New signing Aiden O’ Reilly also got on the scoresheet with 2 well taken goals. A game dominated by the Pumas who missed a number of chances along with a missed spot kick.
Under 12 Lions visited Whitley Juniors as underdogs in this Division E fixture, but gave a good account of themselves in the 1st half, going in only 2-1 down thanks to a penalty, earned and converted by striker Jan. In the 2nd half, several errors led to soft goals, and a subsequent loss in discipline and energy levels. Final score Whitley 5-1 GNP.
Under 12 Tigers visited new opponents Camp Hill Ed Sports & Social (CHESS) Lions in the opening round of the Bedworth Nursing Cup. The boys turned in an uncharacteristically lacklustre display and were well beaten in what proved to be a cup upset. Absences, knocks and new injuries didn’t help, but the Tigers were never at the races today, going down 4-1 despite a late penalty, earned by Oscar and converted by Ayden.
Under 13s Tigers visited Hartshill Sports Club, and got their 1st league points on the board. Fantastic battling today from the boys, who were up against a very physical team, but the Tigers played hard with great football. Brilliant partnerships by Jayden & Josh, with goals from Jayden and Aarav. Amazing midfield work by Anesu with his energy, despite being targeted by the other team. Overall a well played game with the point for the draw thoroughly deserved today!
Under 15s were away to AFC Coventry today. After conceding early in the first half GNP managed to go into half time level after an equaliser from Riley. A 2nd half turnaround in performance resulted in two goals from Archie and one from Ajay. Final score 4-1 win!
