Torrential downpours through the week decimated the grass fixture programme, with the only games going ahead those played on 3G/4G pitch surfaces. However it was a positive one for GNP with only 1 defeat in the 5 games summarised below:
SATURDAY - BOYS
Under 8 Pumas played away against Hillmorton Hawks. From the beginning the Pumas worked very well as a team with fluid passing to create numerous chances on goal. At half time Pumas had a good lead. In the 2nd half the team's confidence grew further - after a couple more goals, goalkeeper, David, was switched to play up the field. He took the chance with both hands and was able to score 4 in an incredible final 10 minutes to give him PotM honours. Great team work, brilliant assists & good goals, which came from David (4), Harvey (2), Sunny (2) & Yash (1)
Under 8 Lions hosted Rugby Borough Lions on a replacement 3G pitch. After starting off very slowly and looking lethargic, GNP conceded two goals in the 1st half, but the 2nd half was completely different. After a half time team talk, the boys came out with more urgency and were shooting a lot more than they did in the first half. Goals from Rajan and Giaan this week, they took their chances really well, but as always, everyone played a part in the final result which ended all square.
SUNDAY - BOYS
Under 9 Lions came out on top against Vision Phoenix. After a sloppy start the Lions hit their stride and were unstoppable for the rest of the 1st half. A totally dominant performance led to the last 30 mins being played in powerplay conditions with Vision fielding 9 players vs the GNP 7. Lots of positives from the game, including a great penalty save by Divith in the 1st half, hat tricks for Majid and Anopa, first goals for the team for Hashim and a penalty scored by Raqeeb. The boys rotated different positions 2nd half to give everyone experience across the field.
Under 10 Tigers faced Alvis Colts & started the game with a bang, straight at it and catching Alvis cold! Tigers opened up the scoring with a beautifully intricate 1st time passing move from back to front finished off cleverly by Ekam from a Rohan cross. They soon increased the lead with a long range effort from Aman and further goals by Jaylan and Ricky. Alvis did pull one back but Tigers raised their levels again with goals from Rohan and another for Jaylan. Tigers played without any subs and it did tell in the final period as they tired. A late Alvis surge brought them back into the game with some goals in the closing stages, but the Tigers lifted themselves and got over the line. A brilliant performance from every one of the boys – congratulations!
Under 13 Tigers visited undefeated title favourites, Rugby Borough Lions on another tough day for the boys. The Tigers started off strong with Rugby initially struggling to contain the GNP attack, with a brilliant free kick scored by Max putting GNP into a great position. However, Rugby gained the momentum and never looked back, leaving GNP on the back foot and firefighting in defence with no substitutes available to deploy. Well done to the boys for working hard in a challenging fixture!
