Under 7 Pumas get off the mark with first ever league victory!

A busy weekend of action with some highlight performances from our Under 9 and Under 10 Panthers in the girls section. Great outcomes for the Under 7 Pumas, Under 8 Lions, Under 11 Pumas and Under 15s in the boys leagues. There was also a first friendly match for both our new Under 6 Boys and Under 7 Girls (pictured) who took their 1st exciting steps in to their grassroots football journey on Saturday!

SATURDAY - GIRLS

Under 9 Panthers achieved a resounding result against Coventrians Girls to continue their strong form of the last 2 months! Well done girls!

Under 10 Panthers travelled to Stratford Town Ladies. Despite dominating play the girls found themselves behind to an unfortunate goal. The girls didn’t let that get them down and soon they levelled the game before half time. Early 2nd half the girls switched off and conceded 2 goals in just seconds apart. Once again the girls put in a shift and were soon on level terms. The girls kept pushing for what would be a winning goal and should be proud of an outstanding performance.

Under 12 Panthers - This weekends match against Sutton Town got off to a disappointing start with the opposition scoring within the first minute. But the Panthers fought back well with their strong defence of Avani, Ekham, Harsimrat and Jeevani. A missed offside decision led to a 2nd goal by Sutton which completed the scoring for the 1st half. The 2nd half was much better with the Panthers really fighting hard, preventing any further goals getting past Harper. Isla made some strong runs, again with several shots on target by Anayah, Mankirat and Jah'Dae, frustratingly denied by the Sutton keeper

Under 13 Panthers went down to Starlands Warriors in difficult circumstances with illness reducing the team to no subs. The opposition should clearly be plying their trade in a higher division so the game unfortunately proved a mismatch.

SATURDAY -BOYS

The Under 7 Pumas this week achieved their first ever league win! The team were playing away to Panjab Athletic. An early goal almost from kick-off settled the team’s nerves, and staying in the lead gave the boys confidence throughout the game. It was great to have the full squad available which really helped to secure the resulylt. Every player was fantastic - a special mention to Arthur for getting a brace and Guransh for scoring a hat-trick.

The Under 7 Tigers competed well for large parts of the game against Vision FC Warriors. The game was closely matched in the 1st half and for much of the 2nd half with goals from Arjun (2) and Gurshaan (1), but Vision pulled away at the end. Well done also to Caleb who took PotM honours.

Under 8 Lions played in an entertaining home match against Firefighters with a high scoring affair. The lions stormed into a big lead before Firefighters reduced the deficit to just one by half time. In the end the boys dug in and did enough to secure the result. Veer started off the scoring with a goal early on. Fakhir worked hard for the team, closing down the opposition and hustling as always and was rewarded with a hat-trick. Manroop scored from a cross into the box, finishing off a good team goal. Rajan also scored and was unlucky to not get a 2nd when he hit the crossbar. Giaan was also unlucky to not get on the score sheet when he hit the post from outside the box but his energy and tackling was much needed in midfield today. Rivan and Sehaj both put in another solid performance at the back. It was a good team effort by everyone and great to see the goals spread out amongst the Lions this weekend.

Under 8 Pumas played higher division Chess FC in a friendly. Great game where the Pumas led in the second half , with 2 goals from Sunny and an amazing free kick from Ajeet. The result didnt go their way in the end but the boys worked really hard against a strong team - well done!

The Under 8 Tigers were up against Christ the King (CTK). An exciting game to watch with the Tigers creating a number of opportunities with some fantastic passing between Jovan, Arveer and Varun. Couldn’t quite find the goal however. Dara continued to be strong in defence protecting the box very well. CTK however opened up the scoring and a few quick goals by them knocked the confidence of the Tigers. Jovan managed to slot one home with an assist by Varun towards the end of the match. Despite the scoreline, it was a pleasing match to watch. On another day the Tigers could’ve scored several goals but it wasn’t to be in this match.

The Under 8 Jaguars played a tough match at home against Hawkesmill. GNP started strong in the first half, but unfortunately, due to some brief lapses in concentration, conceded a few goals. The boys bounced back and managed to score two amazing goals through Agam, one from a free kick and another from a chip. Angad and Agam created efforts on goal in the 2nd half, but despite our efforts, GNP were unable to do any more. The opposition took advantage of any momentary weaknesses and added goals themselves. Overall, a good effort put up by the Jaguars boys.

The Under 11 Tigers went down 1-0 to Balsall & Berkswell Hornets Colts, a strong team from the top tier, in the Mid Warwickshire Shield competition. Good effort by the team and unlucky to concede with a few minutes to go.

SUNDAY - BOYS

A big win for the Under 15s today away at Alvis. Only surprise was it took
16 minutes to score the first and thereafter goals galore. First coming from Zaid, followed by a second from Jatin a minute later. Two corners causing confusion lead to two own goals and a fifth before half time, after a belter from outside the box from Tyler for his first goal for GNP. 2nd half followed the same pattern and once the sixth goal was scored by Tom, four more followed with two from Nana, one from Raman and one from Archie. Final score 10-0.

Under 13 Tigers played against a strong Christ the King. The boys did very well in the first 20 mins keeping them quiet and controlling the ball, but then CTK scored 3 goals all from the same mistake. Tigers came out for the 2nd half strong and played great football, scoring 5 goals, but in a crazy game, CTK scored another 4 goals of their own, edging the game 7-5. The spirit and determination the boys showed was amazing - all supporters were very proud of them!

Under 12 Tigers faced Copsewood Cobras and got off to a bad start, conceding 3 early on. Following a substitution the team fought back. After forcing a few dangerous corners, one resulted in a goalie fumble followed by a defensive handball, and top scorer Ayden duly dispatched the spot kick. Soon after, Arjun and Iklil combined well on the left before the latter squared the ball perfectly for Ayden to slot home again. 3-2 at half time and GNP were optimistic. Unfortunately Copsewood started the 2nd half on fire and the Tigers couldn't cope, despite the best efforts of PotM Enoch and a couple of worldie saves from Otis. Several goals followed to earn Cobras an emphatic victory.

Under 11 Pumas were at home against Bedworth Eagles Superstars in an entertaining game of football. Pumas played very good football throughout the entire game with Haris Hussain controlling the opposition danger man. Half time saw the teams on level terms. But Pumas took control early in the 2nd half and it resulted in a victory for the Pumas and another hat trick for Aaron Dhaliwal.

GNP Under 10 Pumas visited Weddington. A great performance from the boys today, probably the performance of the season. Pumas took the lead in the first minute through a goal by Jaiden. The Pumas continued to dominate creating chance after chance. In the second half, the Pumas continued in the same vein with most of the game being played in the opposition's half. Pumas conceded a goal against the run of play but they continued pushing forward creating chances but failed to score. Overall a very pleasing performance.

The Under 10 Lions faced Coventry Phoenix Youth in a match that began at a frantic pace, with the Lions unfortunate to concede to a counter-attack. As the game progressed, Phoenix demonstrated their physicality and managed to extend their lead. Despite the pressure, the GNP team showed resilience and grit, executing some impressive tackles across the pitch with Rajan leading the charge. However, they struggled to threaten the opposition's goal, especially against a team boasting one of the top players in this tier in defence. In the 2nd half, the team displayed character and competitiveness, but another goal put the game out of reach. Kian's exceptional saves helped keep the score down, but Arjun stood out as the man of the match with his numerous tackles.

GNP Under 10 Tigers were away to the Pool A Trophy Event champions, Cov Sphinx Yellow, in their first game back after more weather disruptions. The game started quite even with both teams attacking and some great defending on show. It was the Tigers that opened the scoring with a goal from Kyle after GNP also missed a penalty. But Sphinx hit back and scored just before the end of the 1st half. 2nd half the rustiness of the Tigers showed and Sphinx took the lead and added to it. Good performance by the boys to give an in-form team a good game.

The Under 9 Tigers were up against Rugby Borough Tigers. It was a brilliant game to watch with GNP Tigers playing some slick football in first half and creating loads of opportunities. GNP Tigers were in control at the end of the first half thanks to a hat trick from Kyan and a goal from Dharam. A couple of the goals resulting from fantastic passing moves. Rugby Tigers came out strong in the second half, with no subs our Tigers started to wear down and concentration levels slipped. It was another tight match with Rugby Tigers stealing it towards the end. PotM went to Dharam, involved in some great attacking moves and a nicely taken goal.
