Lions take Under 9 spoils in GNP Sports Derby!

SUNDAY

GNP Under 10 Tigers returned to league action for the final time this season  following their successful Cornwall tour last weekend, and it was familiar opponents in Stratford Town Colts who they played for the 4th time this season. The game was fast paced but high quality with the defences finishing on top 1st half, as it ended goalless. After the break the quality of football rose again with both attacks finding more space and creating several chances. Dhairya was up to every attempt at goal, but could do nothing when a well struck shot from the skillful Stratford left back deflected off Oscar and then himself allowing a simple tap-in at the far post for the Colts forward. GNP were not finished though, and followed out the coaches instructions to a tee with free-flowing possession football. Saavun was denied from several long range efforts whilst Arjun & Cinar also had shots brilliantly saved. When the goal came it was pure brilliance. A move from the back on 37 mins released Elio on the right, who drove to the corner flag and pulled back a delicious cross; there was still plenty to do but Ayden took a great touch near the penalty spot and smashed in the equaliser to the bottom corner..What a goal!!  Around 6 minutes later, Saavun floated in 2 great corners from the left. The first was well cleared but the 2nd skimmed off the top of the defender's head, and was met beautifully at the far post by Ayden again to put GNP a goal ahead. As Stratford pushed to get back in the game, GNP exploited the emerging gaps with more attractive play, but the game and the league season finished with a great win for the Tigers who have ended their season superbly well. Well done to all the boys and good luck as you venture into 9v9 football from next week and all that comes with it.

The Under 10 Lions played their last league game of the season away to Athletic Utd hoping to sign off with a win. The Lions were put under early pressure and went a goal behind struggling to get out of their own half. They hit back with two goals from Kyan and Rajan, the latter coolly slotting home a penalty, giving the keeper no chance. Unfortunately they were unable to hold onto the lead and conceded a sloppy goal on the stroke of half time. The home team came on strong in the second half and took the lead again and could’ve extended their lead even further but failed to do so from the penalty spot. There was no futher scoring in the match and the Lions succumbed to an eventual defeat.
The Lions, however, should be proud of their efforts this year -  onwards and upwards for next season !

Memorial Park hosted the GNP Under 9 derby match between the Lions and the Pumas. After a one-sided game last time out, the Under 9 Pumas made a much better fist of it this weekend in a close game. The Under 9 Lions, however, came out on top with a single goal from Yousaf. Well done both teams for a competitive match played in great spirit!
