U7 Lions on fire in league debut!

SATURDAY

The Under 7 Lions' league debut saw them make the trip to Southam United Lionesses. It took just 57 seconds for the Lions to get on the score sheet with a fantastic individual show of skill and balance from Jayden. The boys showed great confidence and control with Jayden adding another. With the opposition's heads starting to drop the Lions roar became louder, plundering a hatful of goals in a completely one-sided encounter. All the boys showcased their skills, discipline and desire to win. Raam, Amar, Jeevun and Harman played a great collaborative defensive game seeing no shots on goal by the opposition. Melvin proved to be too much for the opposition to handle with his speed and power. Goalscorers were Jayden, Paras and Harman,  with the rest of the team providing valuable assists.

The Under 8 Tigers started slowly,  conceding a goal early against Cov Jag. This jolted the Tigers into action with Dale responding with a great solo goal. Two quickfire goals gave the Tigers a half time lead but the 2nd half saw a brave comeback from Cov Jag to tie things up. Again this spurred the Tigers on and two goals apiece from Jaylan & Dale made it a clear victory in the end for GNP.

In the Girls League, our Under 8 Panthers came up against a polished Southam United team going down to a heavy defeat. Southam came out flying playing some wonderful stuff and went into the break with a clear lead. Panthers battled hard in the second half but conceded more, However the girls did score a consolation goal through Avneet B.

Also in girls Football, our FA Wildcats programme continues to go from strength to strength. With approx a dozen Yr 5 & Yr 6 girls training midweek, we now have an average of 15 additional girls per week attending the Saturday sessions for years 1 to 4.  The future looks very bright for girls football at GNP with a number of new teams on the horizon over the next few seasons!

A well fought game in the Mid Warwickshire league ended all square between the Under 9 Tigers & a well-drilled Firefighters. After going a goal down, GNP battled hard to take a lead with goals from Zorawar Shoker and Sarvan Garchay. Firefighters fought back to equalise and when it looked like the tie was over with minutes left on the clock GNP took the lead through Uday Sandhu. 30 seconds remaining, Firefighters pulled it back with virtually the last kick of the game. Pure end to end action, all players and parents appreciating a fascinating high quality game of football!

The Senior team fell back to earth with a painful bump following last week's league debut demolition job on Red Lion Rangers. It was largely the same GNP line-up but stronger opposition in AFC Binley, and the young Lions failed to adapt after matching their more experienced opponents for the first 20 mins. Indiscipline set in after the 2nd goal and they found themselves 4 down at half time with 3 of the goals genuine gifts. Changes at the break and a more competitive 2nd half but the final score was 0-6, a harsh lesson showing us what Adult football is all about!

SUNDAY

Under 9 Pumas visited Lillington Juniors (Colts) in a very hard fought match which resulted in the Pumas narrowly missing out. An unfortunate hand ball in the first few minutes from our own Armaan Vraitch resulted in the Colts taking the lead from the spot.  But not to be disheartened, taking the coach’s advice, Armaan picked his head up and made up for it with a quick-fire double for the Pumas to go into the break in the ascendency. Pumas came out of the blocks lethargically in the second half and after a game-changing slip in midfield were pegged back before Lillington Colts capitalised on Pumas tiredess to snatch a decisive lead. A special mention to Bahadar Dhaliwal who battled tirelessly in midfield and to Aman Dhesi for a imperious performance at the back. Great effort Pumas!

Another difficult day for the Under 9 Lions against Bedworth United. On the positive, there were some great individual performances from Alban and Yousaf, who battled until the end. There were glimpses of some good passing from the team overall, but still a lot of work that needs to be done from a team still adjusting to 7 a side.

The Under 10 Lions ground out a hard-fought away result against a more experienced Kenilworth Wardens (Falcons) outfit. After a cagey opening the hosts slowly began to dominate proceedings but were kept at bay by a combination of some superb goalkeeping from Dhairya and resolute defending. A long goal kick out on the cusp of half time by Dhairya released Ayomide who powered his way down the left wing before smashing the ball home at the near post. The hosts were quick off the mark in the second half as they pushed for an equalizer, which came shortly after the break when they managed to score directly from a corner! With the wind firmly in their sails Kenilworth pushed forward, but the Lions keeper was in no mood to be beaten again. The Lions looked dangerous on the counter-attack and a quickly taken throw in by Rajan released Harman on the right who crossed the ball in from the by-line allowing Kyan to smash the ball home from close range. The Lions defended from the front and saw out a great performance. A tremendous effort and all-round team performance from the Lions today!

The Under 10 Tigers encountered old rivals and reportedly under-strength Leamington Brakes Gold at Memorial Park and came out on top thanks to an own goal forced by Elio's driving run & cross and a well worked team goal scored by Saavun and teed up by Arjun. Clean sheets are always well received but it was an under-par performance from the Tigers overall with a hatful of chances squandered to extend their lead. An exciting Autumn Trophy Event campaign awaits with Tier 1 opposition lying in wait over the coming weeks...

Our Under 11 Tigers struggled against Coventry Copsewood, but the boys battled hard to the end. They were always up against it, short- handed with no subs, and then going down to 8 players, they always showed heart and character. Considering that the spine of the team was unavailable today, it was encouraging that the team stayed competitive in the game until half time.

U11 Lions Report unavailable....

Two wins out of two for the Under 13s this season. They raced to a 4-0 lead in the first half and then made things difficult for themselves by conceding three on the bounce. Luckily a 5th and 6th goal came along with final result 6-3. A debut hat-trick for Jacob, two goals from Reis and one from Riley.

The Under 16s lost a tight game 2-1 away @ Bedworth Eagles, lads were 2-0 down with the first goal  being a dubious penalty awarded for handball, they battled back with a (genuine) penalty converted by Amaan - a real gritty performance from the lads, just didn’t get the reward that their efforts deserved.
