4 star Rajan lifts Lions to Trophy Event gloryland!

SATURDAY

GNP Sports Seniors hosted RS Sports Reserves in the Coventry Alliance Div 4 fixture and came out deserved 4-1 winners, with striker Aaron Nijjar grabbing all 4 GNP goals in the 1st hour before RS scored a consolation from the penalty spot after a debatable foul was given against Kulraj Dhesi. The game was a really scrappy affair, again spoiled by a whistle-happy ref, but fortunately attacking midfielder, Lee Wilkins, was on form and cleverly teed up Aaron for all three of his simply taken first half goals. Aaron clinically grabbed his 4th before being substituted, by capitalising on a defensive mistake forced by Puran Gosal's pressing. This result makes it a solid, if unspectacular, start to the season for this young squad, nestled in behind the top 3 runaway leaders in this league with 10 pts from the opening half dozen games.

The Under 7 Tigers made a momentous league debut at Rugby Town stadium vs Hillmorton (Hawks), a game which was set up as a special event directly before the Senior fixture on the stadium's main pitch! The result didn't go their way, but coaches & parents were proud of all the boys for their efforts!

The Under 7 Lions faced another tough fixture, away in the form of Cov Sphinx White. The game opened with the teams closely matched. The deadlock was finally broken with Sphinx taking the lead but the Lions battled like true warriors and after a hatful of goals at each end, the sides were level at half time. GNP displayed the same fighting spirit, matching and regularly bettering the opposition in the 2nd period, but fell foul of some debatable refereeing, including a disallowed goal which proved to be decisive with Sphinx snatching a last minute winner. Amar had yet another outstanding game as GK, matched by a mature defensive performance from Harman. Paras, Raam, Jeevun and Melvin all played with discipline & determination, whilst Jayden provided the creative spark.  A proud performance all round from the young Lions, who deserved so much more from today!

The Under 8 Tigers were also away to Cov Sphinx, conquerors of GNP in 2 previous match-ups. An edgy start for both teams with no real chances created in the first 10 minutes but a late Sphinx goal gave them the edge at the end of the first half. The 2nd half started strongly with a well-worked goal finished by Dale. The Tigers continued the pressure which resulted in another goal with 8 minutes to go. The team then defended really well right up to the end to secure a great result. Well done!!

GNP Under 8 Lions played their 2nd league game against Coventry United (Green). It was evenly matched in the first half, but United got the break of the ball a couple of times towards the end and took a lead into the break. GNP came out in the 2nd half determined to get back into the game and had the better of the chances, hitting the woodwork numerous times. They got a goal back through Athrv Bhat and laid siege to the Cov United goal but could not find the equaliser. Nevertheless, it was a great team performance. Man of the match honours went to Arjun Sumal for a solid display at the heart of the defence.

Our Under 9 Tigers put in a solid display to secure a positive result, also against Cov United. Some fine finishing by Uday Sandhu and a great penalty save by Gurpal Gill were the highlights of the game. GNP produced some fine combinations of play throughout the game and defended brilliantly as a team to come out on top!

The Under 8 Panthers Girls faced Coundon Court in an early home kick off. As in the previous game,  the girls came out of the traps flying, imposing themselves on the opposition, scoring within the first few minutes. Panthers kept to their tactics with a solid defence and attacking play, with a sole late goal in the first half by the opposition the only blemish in a near perfect display.  The 2nd half started with the opposition taking advantage of the power-play rule and mounting a comeback with the Panthers conceding several goals. The girls kept their heads up, battling well to maintain their comfortable lead to the end.

SUNDAY

GNP Under 16s lost 6-3 away v Alvis. A disappointing performance from the lads, with too many boys below par. They got back to 2-3 in second half, after being 3 goals down at HT, only to give away 3 sloppy goals with individual errors.
Arian, Bradley & Amaan got on the scoresheet.

The Under 11 Lions visited Bedworth Eagles Fliers this week and the game started well with Ajay Dhesi notching the opening goal. After a Bedworth equaliser, Nathan Henry put the Lions back in front, and another goal followed from Himmat Singh. The 2nd half saw Bedworth back in the game but the lead was re-established by Gabriel Prendi who knocked home a rebound from the post. Some outstanding goal keeping by Joshua Marawo kept GNP in the game and a fine result was secured.

Under 9 Pumas went up against Coventrians Jaguar (Rangers) in an end to end semi final tie the Pumas never gave up on.  Going down to an early goal, Pumas bounced back scoring through Arjun Garchay but the opposition edged back in front. Pumas came out the stronger team in the 2nd half, looking for an equaliser but Jag took advantage again before Armaan Vraitch hit back thanks to great work down the wing by Sarvan Garchay.  Pumas then took it to the opponents and were inches from an equaliser in the last few minutes when Arjun's shot was superbly cleared off the line by the home defender. A fantastic defending display by Haris Hussain and Rayan Naved along with Ibraheem Khan who went up against a very strong striker. A proud Pumas performance against a very strong team!

The Under 9 Lions faced Lillington on a wet and windy day in the other Pool C Trophy Event semi. The Lions went a goal behind, only to draw level from a brilliantly worked team goal finished by Ekam. Unfortunately as we gained momentum, we were hit by a sucker punch, eventually going into the half time interval 2 goals down. The Lions showed unbelievable determination and battled throughout the entire game. They competed from start to finish and the final scoreline did not do the Lions performance any justice. Another team performance which didn't get the reward it deserved.

Under 10 Tigers were back to league action at home to Christ the King Rovers (Blue). It was expected to be an evenly matched affair and so it proved with the game going from end to end. GNP failed to capitalise on a dominant start and went in to the break goalless. A smartly worked free kick move after 30 mins saw Iklil & Oscar Mielczarek combine brilliantly to tee up Jan Pastusiak for the opening goal and GNP missed chances to extend the lead when Aarun Shoker struck the post from a free kick and had his penalty saved! CTK took full advantage, hitting back via a virtuoso performance from their striker who is a hot academy prospect at CCFC. He stripped the defence with blistering pace & skill to slot 2 goals past keeper Prabhvir before Saavun Kang equalised from close range. With GNP pushing for a winner in the closing minutes, the CTK striker did it again on the breakaway, sprinting onto a clearance before finishing clinically from the edge of the box!

Last but not least, the Under 10 Lions took on Bedworth Utd in the Semi-Final stage of the Pool D Trophy Event and cruised comfortably into the Final with an emphatic victory. The Lions had the better of the chances in the first half and raced into a two goal lead with Rajan grabbing them both. Bedworth rallied,  created some chances of their own and pulled one back from the spot shortly before half time. The Lions moved up a gear in the second half and effectively ran away with the game. Rajan grabbed another two goals chalking up his 2nd hat-trick in consecutive games with Harman and Ayomide grabbing a goal  apiece. Kyan also grabbed a brace including a special long range free kick that had the crowd off their feet ! Bedworth did find the net once more but it was not their day.

Good luck from everyone at GNP to the U10 Lions boys in the Final vs Griff & Coton in their first ever season - fingers crossed they can go all the way!
