Another wet week of rain and half term stand downs put paid to a big chunk of the fixture list this weekend. Just 7 games to get through this week
SATURDAY - BOYS
Under 8 Pumas were away to Lillington Colts & started slow, conceding 3 goals in the first 15 minutes. Musa got the Pumas a goal back with a composed finish just before half time. GNP started very strong after the break and in the space of 10 minutes , Harvey scored 2 goals and Nirvair found the back of the net, to turn the game on its head! Harvey was close to getting his hat trick when he hit the bar from a curling effort. PotM David had a fantastic game, saving multiple times, including a great penalty stop. Unfortunately, the opposition scored a goal to equalise, but coaches and parents alike were very proud of the Pumas, showing such determination even when seemingly out of the game.
Under 8 Lions played at home to Rugby Borough Lions. Both teams put up a very brave effort in tough weather conditions. Rugby came out on top over the course of the match and GNP grabbed a consolation goal late on which was well deserved as the boys tried really hard in heavy rain.
Under 7 Lions were up against Coventry Sphinx White in an away game and it was close-fought game between two evenly-matched teams. Every single player put in a solid performance in tough weather conditions and with no subs. It was all square until last minutes of the game, but Sphinx came out on top thanks to 2 late goals. There were a couple of chances to equalise with good corner kicks by Samar but unfortunately it did not fall in GNP’s favour today. Balraj put in a player-of-the-match performance as goalkeeper – well done!
SUNDAY - BOYS
Under 13 Tigers faced Daventry Town Titans. The GNP boys often looked a better team and created a few goal scoring chances, however the finish was not there. The second half followed the same pattern until the last 10 mins, where the team leaked 3 goals to lose the game to a close rival in the league. Overall the Tigers appear low on confidence after recent heavy defeats, and just need some luck to help turn things around.
Under 12 Lions had to switch their home game with Firefighters to the opposition ground. The boys should have come into the game confident against a team in similar predicament to them, but started really nervously at the back, conceding 2 early goals. They grew into things and started to dominate possession with Ehan knocking in a rebound for his first goal for GNP. In the 2nd half Firefighters extended their lead with 2 more, before a late GNP fightback resulted in Ehan grabbing his 2nd goal of the game. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, as other good chances were spurned. A disappointing 4-2 loss today, albeit with a couple of unlucky goals against the team.
Under 10 Pumas visited Brinklow Colts and conceded an early goal in the opening few minutes. As the game went on Pumas had a few chances to score from set pieces. The goal came in the closing stages of the 1st half, a well defended free kick created an opportunity for Lekum to take on the Brinklow defence, the ball was crossed to Ziyyad for him to score. The 2nd half was pretty balanced with Pumas having a number of goal scoring chances. At the back Pumas were pretty solid but Brinklow managed to get a 2nd goal from a rare defensive error to secure the game.
GNP Under 10 Tigers were away to recent Trophy Event conquerors ,Rugby Borough Jaguars. Was always going to be a tough game with several players missing. The game started quite evenly but halfway through the first half Rugby opened the scoring and quickly increased their lead. Second half Tigers really gave it a go but were exposed at the back while pushing on which allowed Rugby to increase their lead even further. Tigers did pull one back with a well taken goal from Rohan. Good effort in testing circumstances.
