GNP Double Cup joy as Pumas and Lions both progress to Finals Day!

SATURDAY - GIRLS

Under 9 Panthers had a fantastic away game against Knowle Spitfires. The girls were straight off the mark with a fire in their belly. Each individual girl showcased some amazing talent. There was seamless passing inspired by their favourite footballers and a solid defence. Anya and Jodh added a goal each to the score, both assisted by the influential Lily. We were unable to maintain a clean sheet but it was a enjoyable win for the girls. Keep it going!

Under 10 Panthers travelled to Leamington. Goals by Avneet (2), Aqsa (2), Suvreet (1). All goals conceded were mistakes. First half was an evenly contested match, although the girls missed lots of clear cut chances and second half was the same with lots of chances missed, but good game management eventually to see the game out at the end.

SATURDAY - BOYS

The Under 8 Pumas finally played their delayed Trophy Event group stage, and boy, was it worth the wait!   Pumas started the first match against Lillington Colts strongly, Harvey scored to put the Pumas ahead. Playing through a downpour of rain,  Musa increased the lead. The opposition did get a late goal however the Pumas kept tight in defence to get their first win in the group.
Next up was Copsewood and the Pumas played well but could not find the back of the net. In the 2nd half Musa scored after a counter attack but the lead did not last long. After another quick counter, Sunny's venomous shot found the back of the net to secure their 2nd victory.
The last game was against a well organised Christ the king. Pumas controlled possession for the 1st half and Harvey scored after some superb dribbling. Unfortunately the Pumas got caught out by 2 quick goals. With 3 minutes to go,  all the team forward. A great corner found Harvey to level the game. However the boys did not want to settle for a draw. In the last minute the whole team and GK went up for a corner,  and Musa found the back of the net to make it 3 wins out of 3. Great work from the Pumas securing a place in the Semi finals against Hillmorton Hawks in a fortnight.

Under 8 Tigers hosted Ambleside Raptors in a friendly. The Tigers got off to a slow start,  under pressure early on, which Kaydon and Dara handled well. They soon changed gears with Eesa opening up the scoring with an assist by Varun. Arveer then followed up winning the battle in midfield and slotting one home. Arveer set-up Eesa to slot another home before striking a well struck volley himself from outside the box. Mohamed came on and did well before adding to the goal tally. Salman continued to impress, maintaining and obtaining possession. Eesa finished off his fantastic overall performance to slot another home to complete his hat-trick which earned him his Player of the Match award. All in all a fabulous performance by the team earning an emphatic result, which is exactly what the boys deserved.

Under 8 Jaguars played against Cov Sphinx, a team from the tier above. The game started off at a very high tempo and Sphinx scored twice. In the 2nd half, the Jaguars turned it around with some great defending from Manveer and Kavin along with Angad who played some great passes, which set up Agam to score both goals to equalise. The Jaguars also hit the post and created numerous shots on target, but the opposition goalkeeper was in inspired form to keep them out. Just before the final whistle, Sphinx scored the winner, but the boys should be super proud of how they performed, showed composure and resilience to come back.

Under 8 Lions played away to Coundon Court. The game was played in tough conditions and the Lions struggled to raise their tempo in the first half. Second half was a better performance and lads were brave to stick at it.

SUNDAY - BOYS

Under 10 Lions visited Racing Club Warwick Gold in the Pool B Trophy event semi final. After conceding first, the lads did well to battle back and finally got some good fortune with Kian scoring from a goal kick. Ryan scored two cracking long range goals and Angad then extended the lead to 4-1. The opposition pulled a couple of goals back to leave a tense finish, but the Lions held on for a well deserved victory and a place in the Final after Easter. PotM Ryan

GNP Under 10 Pumas v Cov Phoenix Blaze. The 1st half saw the Pumas take time to get in to the game, going on to concede a goal. 2nd half Pumas came out stronger, determine to get goals, pressing at every opportunity. The first goal came through Jaiden; a great individual goal. The second followed from Ziyyad beating the keeper from close range.  Pumas had  several opportunities to increase the lead with Lekan hitting the post and the crossbar.  Pumas were pretty solid defensively, however, Phoenix got their 2nd goal of the game to equalise. A super 2nd half performance by the Pumas!

Under 9 Tigers played away against Rugby Borough Tigers. Samarvir returned in goal and put in a great performance as a sweeper keeper. Rugby went ahead with a long range effort catching the wind and looping over the keeper. GNP fired back with goals from Sohan and Dharam, both well worked goals with some excellent passing. More goals should have come with numerous goalmouth scrambles and striking the woodwork. In the 2nd half Kyan and an own goal added to the GNP goals. With a late change of GNP keeper the home side took full advantage and snatched a highly unlikely victory. The boys were disappointed at the end, but the performance at times was brilliant. PotM was Samarvir with his performance in goal. Sohan was  impressive again in midfield.

Under 12 Lions visited bottom of the table Southam after a long weather-enforced break. They got off to a flying start with 4 goals in the opening 10 mins before adding a 5th before half time. Striker, Jan, sealed a hat trick before the break with further goals added by Junior and a fine free kick from Jasraj. Ehan was influential as the team's creative force, whilst Harshaan, Prabhvir and keeper Tyler kept things safe at the back. Mohammed made a promising debut on the right and Prabhvir added one more well taken goal in the 2nd half after being fed by Junior. The win extends the gap to the league's bottom two but the boys should look to build on this with more points over the games after Easter.

Under 12 Tigers visited Alvis just 2 weeks after their last visit, and bounced back from a dark Sunday last week with a cracking performance. Reduced to the bare 9 players on the morning of the game, adjustments had to be made, with Enoch coming into make his 1st performance at centre back alongside Harman S. They formed a formidable pairing and were ably supported at wing back by Cinar and Aarun to keep Alvis at bay for almost the entire 1st half. On the stroke of half time, a mistake from our own goal kick gave Alvis an easy chance they took advantage of. The boys were determined at half time to come back but quickly went 2 down from an offside-looking goal. They fought back and scored from a scramble after Saavun's corner; Cinar & Harman B were both denied before Ayden stabbed home. But Alvis sealed the game from a corner of their own.
