Majid strikes four as Lions edge GNP Under 9s Derby!

Waterlogged pitches played havoc with fixtures with multiple cancellations again this weekend!

Nevertheless we saw some stupendous goalscoring exploits from GNP players in the games that did go ahead! Majid grabbed the headlines with 4 goals in the GNP Under 9s Derby, which was matched by our prolific Under 15s striker Archie in their big win over Copsewood. Riley added another hat trick in the Under 15s game, whilst young Mohamed (Under 8 Tigers) went even better with 5 (Yes, Five!) goals in their match against Coventry Sphinx!

SATURDAY - GIRLS

Under 9 Panthers visited Arden Forest Wildcats with renewed optimism following last weeks performance and gave it their best. There were some stunning defensive interventions by Lily, whilst Jodh tried with all her might to score but was unable to get it over the line. The opposition did manage to beat our defence at times leading to crucial goals. But good effort girls!

SATURDAY - BOYS

Under 8 Pumas hosted Alvis Eagles and a enthralling first half ensued: a great attacking display with the Pumas picking up 2 early goals from Harvey. The Eagles fought back and responded with 2 goals of their own. As half time approached Nirvair put GNP ahead with a goal which crept over the line. 2nd half the Pumas relentless attacking continued; Yash scored a superb goal which soared in from the near the half way line & Musa ended the game with a goal to sum up a great display from the Pumas. Harvey picked up PotM for an excellent attacking performance.

Under 8 Lions played away to Bedworth Greenbacks in an entertaining game. The Greenbacks, showing patience and great passing, went ahead before half time. The Lions battled back – a big shout out to Manroop and Giaan for their goals. Greenbacks sealed the game dramatically with the last kick!

Under 8 Tigers were up against Sphinx White and produced an encouraging performance, taking the lead through Mohamed. Sphinx came back strong but the Tigers hung on in there. Some great assists with Varun, Jovan and Arveer all playing a part in helping Mohamed score a further 4 goals, to cap an amazing individual performance, earning Mohamed the Player of the Match. Sphinx however were just a little too strong in the end, but the boys can be proud of their performance overall.

SUNDAY - BOYS

GNP Under 9 Lions played GNP Under 9 Tigers in the 2nd internal derby game of the season. Just like last time, the game was a thriller, with the lead going from one side to the other. It could have gone either way, and a draw probably would have been a fair result, but the Lions boys just edged it, thanks to 4 goals from Majid. Tigers goals in reply came from Dharam, Yuvraj and own goal following a corner from Sohan.

Under 10 Lions were up against Athletic Utd for the 2nd time this season. The Lions were at it from the first whistle but went a goal down against the run of play. GNP managed to turn it around in the first half with goals by Athrv and Angad to go into half time leading. The 2nd half, it was much of the same, with the Lions creating numerous chances. They couldn’t find the goals to make it more comfortable and had to rely on 2 great saves by Kian late on to hold on for the victory. Man of the match was Veeran with a storming performance at the back which saw him carrying the ball confidently into midfield areas.

GNP Under 11 Pumas faced Cov Saracens. 2 evenly matched teams in action, albeit with the Pumas missing a number of players. The teams went into the half time break on level terms but Cov Saracens took an early 2nd half lead and further extended their lead, following a string of poor clearances from the Pumas.

The Under 15 boys started well against Copsewood Tigers, and were 3-0 up after 11 mins with goals from Amrit, Archie and Zaid. The game then became scrappy, and GNP ended the first half with only one additional goal, again from Archie. The 2nd half saw some clinical finishing with further goals from Archie, Riley, Nana and Zaid sealing a very convincing 11-1 win.
