The weekend saw GNP Sports teams all paying their respects to the Armed Forces with 2 minute silences observed for Armistice Day (Saturday) and Remembrance Sunday. On the pitch it was a muddy one, but the kids persevered and produced some great performances. Catch up on all the action below!
SATURDAY - GIRLS
Under 9 Panthers came back this weekend with a roar. The girls played against Coundon Court and started the match with a goal from Elizabeth. Poppy and Lily formed a fearsome defence with strength and determination. Jodh, Rhea and Elizabeth creeted great link-ups up top, leading to hat tricks from both Elizabeth and Jodh. Now let's keep this momentum going! Proud of you girls!
Under 13 Panthers. Away game against Warwick Juniors who were sitting 3rd in the table. An even game ended in a narrow 2-0 defeat for the Panthers but the girls fought bravely all game. The defence looked strong but were undone by 2 lucky attacks. Two narrow defeats in two weeks to the teams sitting in 2nd and 3rd shows a promising future for a team who are are new to league football & starting to gel well.

SATURDAY - BOYS
Under 7 Tigers played against Bedworth United. The boys played a fantastic match taking a lead early on. The boys gave a seamless performance; goals scored by Arjun (4), Caleb (2) and Gurshaan. Kurren and Ajaib formed a strong defence at the other end. Player of the Match was awarded to Arjun. Well done boys!
Under 7 Lions were away against Hillmorton and were unlucky in the opening minutes to concede an own goal from a Hillmorton corner. Hillmorton went on to double the lead at half time. Lions came back strong in the 2nd half with Samarbir hitting the back of the net twice along with Arjan, completing an amazing comeback for the Lions. But Lions unfortunately conceded in the last few seconds of the game to leave us all square. A strong defensive shift put in by Lions defenders, Aaron and Harnam in the second half. Arjan was awarded Player of the match for his performance.
Under 7 Pumas hosted Christ the King Red. After a slow start and conceding two early goals, we pulled one back through Jeevan unlocking their defence and powering through to hit the net. With a full squad and giving everyone a good run out, we lost our shape in the second half of the match and conceded more goals. However, it could have been worse had it not been for a player-of-the-match performance by our keeper Dayal Rai who had no fear between the sticks.
Under 8 Tigers were up against Vision Spartans. A thoroughly entertaining game to watch with end-to-end attacks. There were plenty of goals for the Tigers with Jovan running down the wing before hitting the back of the net, Attharv from a few yards out, Varun with his battling mindset inside the box and Mohamed bagging 2 with the ball seemingly glued to his feet before finding the goal. Unfortunately, the boys didn’t get rewarded fully for their attacking efforts, leaking some unnecessary goals at the other end. Player of the match was Mohamed for his outstanding contribution.
GNP Under 8 Jaguars played Hawkesmill Eagles. At the start it was back and forth and GNP were close to scoring a first goal but Hawkesmill's goalkeeper played extremely well. After the first half ended in a stalemate; sadly due to a defensive lapse, GNP conceded the critical goal in the 2nd period. Yet the boys didn't lose hope and kept pushing for an equaliser. It was a fairly and evenly contested match with a result that could have gone either way.
Under 8 Lions visited Cov Jag Youth, a team that had beaten them comfortably in an evaluation game 2 months back....the boys put in a great effort and competed much better today, reflected in the closer scoreline. The boys will need to work on defending as a team, as Jag scored many of their goals on the counter attack.
After 3 weeks out due to poor weather GNP Under 11 Tigers faced a tough challenge vs Leek Wootton. With both teams unable to beat each other in previous seasons the game started off well for Leek Wooton, who played very well and scored some good goals in the first half. GNP battled well and scored two fine goals through Aman Dhesi and Zada however, it wasn’t enough on the day. Player of the match was Jenson in goals who made some fine saves and has become the team’s most improved player this season so far.
SUNDAY - BOYS
The Under 15s were home to Central Ajax with the incentive of maintaining their 100% start to the season. They duly started off quickly and 2-0 up after 16 minutes with a brace from Archie. The first came from a corner from Dylan and the second after a through ball from Daanyaal. Half time team talk was simple; “Don't concede and another three points”. Couple of changes during the second half resulted in Nana scoring his first goal of the season after following up on his initial shot. Several chances missed and with the game looking over, Nana played in Archie who completed his hat-trick at the near post. Pleasing thing today was that the boys responded at half time and played a lot better in the second half to fully deserve their win.
Under 13s Tigers vs Rugby Town Eagles. A dominant game possession-wise from the Tigers but just not able to find the back of the net in the first half. Second half the boys played the same but managed to eventually score 2 decisive goals through Inder & Hawon in the final quarter of the game. A much needed first league win of the season, with the hard work finally paying off. Josh earned Player of the match plaudits. Onwards and upwards from here!
Under 12 Lions hosted high flying Weddington Sports Titans at Finham Park. Missing some key players in the spine of the team, it looked like it might be an uphill battle but the Lions defied the odds with a tremendous 1st half display. Filip & Jan provided power & purpose in the middle of the attack and the team missed several clear chances early on before wing back Milad dispatched an Ayomide cut back into the net for a deserved lead. Further chances went begging but GNP then lost defensive discipline as a team and some poor decisions led to Weddington taking a surprise half time lead. Unfortunately, the lack of options off the bench started to tell as Weddington exploited big gaps and scored a hatful in the 2nd half. PotM Jan was rewarded with a goal for his amazing efforts following an assist by Filip. Positive signs today
Under 12 Tigers played Alvis Juniors in Div A action and played a disappointing 1st half with mistakes at the back giving Alvis a big lead at half time. In the 2nd half the Tigers turned things round with a spirited performance. Ayden’s supreme effort levels were rewarded as he latched onto a quick Enoch throw-in to twist and turn the defence before smashing in his shot low & hard. Iklil and Harman S dominated their duels with strong interceptions at the back and PotM Saavun & Aarun formed a solid midfield partnership to hopefully give the boys confidence going into future games.
Under 11s Pumas were up against AFC Coventry in muddy conditions at Caludon Castle. The entire game was dominated by GNP, who failed to convert their chances. Stand in goalkeeper, Aiden O Reilly, was only tested a handful of times but unfortunately was unable to prevent the AFC goals.
GNP Under 10 Tigers hosted Bedworth United. Game started off brightly with both teams trading attacks. Tigers had some great chances but just the final pass was missing. Eventually the Tigers opened the scoring with a goal from jaylan with a brilliant assist from Rohan. Shortly followed with another again from Jaylan. First half was rounded off with another this time for Ricky. Second half Bedworth did come back in to the game with a couple of goals. But again Tigers hit back with another for Ricky. Tigers went on to build a healthy lead with goals from Ekam and Kyle. Great performance from the boys and the defence Aman and Shaan in muddy conditions, allied with some brilliant saves from Amar.
Under 10 Lions were up against against Coventry Phoenix. From the first whistle, GNP were bossing possession and creating chances. Despite this, they went into half time a goal down. The 2nd half was no different, with GNP controlling the game, giving very little away. A missed penalty and numerous missed chances later, GNP somehow found themselves on the end of a single goal defeat. A special mention for Rajan, who fractured his leg during pre-season; this was his first game back and he looked like he had never been away! Despite the defeat, we will take great heart from the level of performances the boys are putting in, and we look forward to next weekend!
Under 10 Pumas hosted Kenilworth Sporting. The Pumas appeared to be sleeping early on, conceding 2 goals in the first 10 mins, but then got into gear and dominated the rest of the half. The goal came from a nice corner routine with the ball worked to Jaiden for him to shoot past the keeper. The 2nd half the Pumas continued to have more of the play, only to concede a third goal. The boys’ heads didn’t drop and they eventually managed goals from Faris, and then Ziyyad, to complete a deserved comeback.
Under 9 Lions played an unbeaten Bedworth Mavericks team. The game was competitive at halftime with little in it, thanks to a fine GNP effort. Second half 3 GNP players picked up injuries, meaning they ended up playing with just 5 players and the game swung heavily in Bedworth’s favour. 2 GNP goals were scored by Anopa & assisted by Majid & Hashim.
